Mick Appleby took charge of this horse back in September from Ron Harris and had two non efforts over 5-6f on turf before showing something at Wolverhampton over 7f when a head 2nd in a class 6.
He started that race OK but has a history of tardy starts. That brings me on to his latest 3 races, a hat trick of victories, all over 8f ish in two class 5 races and one class 6. His first win he was 7/2 and ran really well from a very poor start, giving away a few lengths.
That form looked good enough for me so I backed him next time at 6/4, SP of evens. He gave away many lengths that day but still came through to win comfortably enough.
I wanted to back him today (Chelmsford 410) at 5/4, again SP of evens but I was concerned that another possible horrid start would be the beating of him.
I watched the race and gave myself a pat on the back because he gave away more than 6 lengths at the start, only for the horse to poke his tongue out at me as he weaved through to land the race comfortably by a length. These weren’t particularly good races but they weren’t complete dross either so it has been quite a feat from this horse. If he could start his races properly then who knows what level of race he should be contesting.
I can’t think of any other horse right now so consistently terrible at the start that has gone on to win its race each time/most times. - AuthorPosts
