City Of Troy features among the 12 entries for a 7f contest which I’m looking forward to enormously with both the Coventry and Chesham form potentially represented too.

City of Troy the one for me, being my early Derby bet.

I won’t bet him here though on his own, and I may double him with Hamish if they both run on Saturday

Although I prefer him for The Derby, what I have done is bet him now for the guineas too at 16-1, rather than here.

My only small concern is that although this race throws up an occasional good one, the list of winners isn’t a stellar one

The odd thing about this 7f contest is it is named after a horse I saw win The Flying Childers Stakes (at a very wet Doncaster in 1983) and was surely best at 5f and 6f.

Anyway, I think City Of Troy has got a job on here and will need to be really smart and pretty speedy to win this.

Haatem was beaten less than three lengths in the Coventry, Oddyssey was beaten less than a length in the Chesham and easy Leicester winner Great Truth is just one of five other last time out winners in the race.

City Of Troy could easily finish fourth in this and still do his 2024 Derby prospects no harm.

    Should be a cracker.

Aidan O’Brien doesn’t run his Derby prospect in the Superlative Stakes, in fact he rarely sends a good one for that race

City of Troy looks a quality horse. If he runs I think he will win this easily.

Likely to be given (if he hasn’t already) an inflated race-day rating by the likes of the RPR who simply want to cover themselves, but almost certainly better than the bare form of his Maiden win anyway.

All about the price for me

Both he and Great Truth are priced up based on the yards they come from.

Haatem and Oddyssey have actual Royal Ascot form, though not by any means at an insurmountable level for a race like this.

I don’t have to have a bet and I may not do.

But if come the day something looks to me to be overpriced….

I’m going for Charlie Hills Lope De Vega colt
    Iberian – 8/1 WIN
Put in an effortless win in his maiden at Newbury winning comfortably and even being eased by Rossa Ryan.
Stepping straight up to Group 2 from this and they must think a lot of him.
I think he will shorten up on the day and he’s already been backed down from 12’s which I missed.
Great Truth is the one he has to fear the most.
Look forward to seeing these in the flesh on Saturday.
    Jac :good:

I’d like a FULL paddock report on this race, please, Jac, if you’d be so kind.

And the more independently opinionated the better.

I think various stables are cracking on with their good 2yos this year for whatever reason (modern stud value premium on precocity, perhaps?) and this could be a really good renewal of this contest this year.

I’ll do my best to pinpoint a few stand outs and negatives Ian. Wi Fi not brilliant at Newmarket.
I’m usually in the pre parade first, under the trees, so will get a chance to see them before they get saddled up but they won’t all come in to the pre parade, especially AOB’s horses. The 2yo’s don’t like the July course pre parade especially if it’s a windy day..so pray for calm skies.
Hope we might see a future champs emerge on Saturday..
    Best of luck… :good: Jac

Before or after the race when you get home (it’s all learning for the future) – either would be much appreciated, Jac.

    Have a great day.

Plenty unexposed in this so looking for something with
potential, likely to run and at a decent price. I thought
that Quatre Bras looked a bit green and tapped for toe a
furlong out, but the penny dropped and he finished best
of all into 3rd place. Admittedly it wasn’t a great race
but I liked the way he picked up in the last furlong. He’s
by Sea The Stars and, as they are inclined to say, could be
    anything.

Same here Graham. Was going to sit this out, but Quatre Bras is one that really caught the eye on debut, and didn’t expect to see him in something like this as soon. More to come I think, and one I’ll be following

    Quatre Bras 33’s EW

I didn’t expect to see Quatre Brass out to 33s Bobby, Bet365 were best priced
at 20s when I stuck him on. I’ll have a bit of that double carpet too :good:

Will city of troy go on the rain softened ground

He’s by Justify who was by Scat Daddy so proper American bred on that side of his pedigree

Coolmore clearly very much have high hopes for justify as a sire sending a mare like together forever to him

Interesting to see how he goes

Regardless of what happens tomorrow you’d imagine we won’t see the best of him until next year over further

His full brother bertinelli is a 1m4f horse so will 7f at 2 really be his bag?

City of troy looks a great prospect but could be a very forward 2yo. He looked very professional on his debut and scared the bejusus out of Ryan by not stopping. If he keeps developing then he could be a very exciting horse. Today will tell us more. Coolmore are very much behind justify here but Wootton basset and no nay never seem the mains ones now with the two siyounis st marks b and Paddington no doubt get a lot. Wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t take a share in siyouni. He looks a cracking stallion now and in the future. Great stamp of a horse with very intelligent heads. St marks b a stunning looking horse.
