I thought Son was overpriced at 16’s. Form of his Newbury victory has worked out well and an extra half a furlong will see better of him yet. Stablemate Haatem is 10/1 but I think Pat Dobbs has first dibbs on Hannon runners this year. Dobbsy’s Dibbs Son.

Pat Dobbs has been riding the Julie Wood owned horses for Hannon most of the time

Not a great race for throwing up Classic winners.

The more I know the less I understand.

He may not be finished yet – National Stakes, Dewhurst, etc

Its unusual for Aidan to have one that impressive this early on in the season? On it not being a race for throwing up classic winners, its also not a race I can recall Aidan sending anything half decent to. Gustav Klimt is the only one I can remember and he was pretty average in the end. He wasn’t anywhere near as impressive as the winner today granted.

Haatem seems to have run right up to his Coventry form, the Chesham third was a remote third here, the overall time looks decent and I really don’t see anything not to like about this victory.

That was an amazing performance from a horse who is definitely a huge contender for next years Guineas. :good:
All in all they were an amazingly well behaved bunch of 2yo’s and it was difficult to find any negatives today although I would definitely say that there is more to come from the Hannon trained Son who seemed quite small for a colt and ran well for a lot of the race.
My paddock pick was unplaced so good job I left my phone at home on charge today Ian although I was hopping mad as I wanted to get some pics of the big race winners.
Cuban Thunder 50/1 was my paddock pick and unplaced but he looked incredible and possibly next time back at Class 2 over 6f he’ll come good.
30,000 people turned out for the July Cup Meeting today a real feel good atmosphere despite the 40 Mile an hour winds and occasional shower. :good: Jac
Well done to all who backed City Of Troy. :good:

    Your welcome Ian. :good:
I thought the winner did incredibly well coping with the conditions and the stalls rattling in the wind at the start. He’s a lovely colt and look forward to seeing what he does next.

    I agree, Jac.

He’s not had any cover in the race either yet it doesn’t seem to have bothered him.

The overall time looks good to me, I’m now reading the closing sectional times were good too, there is so much progressive influence in his breeding in fact, my main worry is I’m wondering how a colt whose sire and maternal grandsire had a total of one juvenile outing between them and both won at 1m4f at three can possibly be winning half the track over 7f in mid July as a 2yo!

He took some pulling up apparently so the after race sectionals would be pretty good too

Simon Rowlands and GT might have been separated at birth, but Simon is essential reading for me nonetheless.

    Simon tweets –

“Closing sectionals for leaders at Newmarket taken from on-screen:

    Race 1: 11.95s + 13.04s = 24.99s
    Race 2: 12.50s + 14.47s = 26.97s
    Race 3: 11.96s + 13.43s = 25.39s
    Race 4: 11.48s + 12.74s = 24.22s

Last-named is the Superlative Stakes won by City of Troy.

    Bunbury Cup: 11.58s + 13.17s = 24.75s”

City Of Troy has been awarded an RPR of 116 for yesterday’s romp, with Haatem and Oddyssey deemed to have run 2lbs and 6lbs respectively below their Royal Ascot form.
