April 6, 2023 at 11:05 #1642515Chezza hasn’t buried anything in Chezza’s back garden as Chezza’s hoping to bury Hughesey there in the not-too-distant future.
Chezza keeps digging holes for Hughesey, but Hughesey refers to get in them (old Spike Milligan joke).

I liked this as it fits in nicely with ‘fascinations of the farmyard’ and the upcoming religious holiday festival where people can stretch their legs in a chair after a good stuffing.
April 6, 2023 at 12:35 #1642525Now that sounds like my kind of religious holiday festival gamble…….stretching out
in a chair after a good stuffing
April 6, 2023 at 18:31 #1642552Murrell is clearly incompetent, a bung from a Tory donor is much easier to hide
April 7, 2023 at 01:36 #1642574Fred West experienced exactly the same indignity.
June 11, 2023 at 17:03 #1651245It has been expected but Sturgeon has finally been arrested and interviewed today.
I suppose she will be released like Murrell but what an utter disaster for the SNP.
I expect the Scottish Labour Party cannot believe its luck.
Alex Salmond was last seen overcome with laughter…
June 11, 2023 at 22:22 #1651275I wonder how the Tory press will cover this one.
It’s been quite the downfall for the SNP in recent months.
June 12, 2023 at 07:39 #1651285“Former First Minister and Leader of the SNP arrested on suspicion of misappropriation of funds” would appear to cover it.
It will be more interesting to see the SNP try to spin it to not look as terrible as it does.
June 12, 2023 at 11:54 #1651289They won’t spin anything at the moment Cork, just use the age old
“Scottish police are investigating and it would be inappropriate
to comment at this time”June 12, 2023 at 18:19 #1651307So she doesn’t have to lose the Whip ….. I see some backbenchers are actually having the balls the way she should , whiter than white Nicola is really rather grubby , she can claim innocence all she wants , the money still hasn’t turned up and she was a co signer on the accounts ….
October 6, 2023 at 09:47 #1665773OK, we all know it is unwise to read too much into one by-election result. But with about one year until the next General Election, a 24% swing from the SNP to Labour is difficult to ignore, even in a seat which has changed hands a few times.
There is no way of spinning it – a catastrophic result for the SNP and the hapless Yousaf.
It was a dreadful result for the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats as well, although they were both almost irrelevant in this contest.
On the huge assumption the result is replicated throughout Scotland in a year’s time, Labour can expect to win a lot of seats. That could be vital if it wants a working majority in Westminster.
The SNP would be unwise to be complacent. Momentum counts for a lot in politics. Since late last year, the situation has got steadily worse for the party and there is no sign of it getting any better.
October 6, 2023 at 10:26 #1665783As CAS says it is a seat that’s changed hands a few times over last few GEs, so in present climate last night’s result is no surprise.
V low turnout (pretty norm for by-elections in the UK).
One of the Scottish seats that Labour will likely win in next GE, BUT they wont replicate ‘across the board’ in Scotland next year imho.
The talk this morn is of c40 seats can be gained in Scotland by Labour; i suspect, in reality, it’ll be half that, with SNP holding on to a fair number.I’m still plumping for a Lab/LD coalition post- next GE.
The real dividing lines, and talking points are, at last, emerging in the UK political scene. SKS and his troops are being ‘smoked out’ with what they will actually do and that means more meaningful debate, thoughts, Qs.
October 6, 2023 at 10:31 #1665785The amount of votes Labour received was very similar to its total at the last General Election. It was the collapse in the SNP vote that caused the loss.
October 6, 2023 at 10:39 #1665787Yes CAS
V similar to Tory by-election losses in Somerton & Frome and others this year.Stay-At-Homers ‘deciding’ the final results.
October 6, 2023 at 10:58 #1665788Momentum counts for a lot in politics
I think the current Labour leadership would rather give Momentum a one-way ticket to North Korea

Patriotism is admirable but Nationalism stinks; therefore, if (big, dubious if) last night’s result signals the demise of the SNP I’d welcome it
Political hacks always overreact to by-election results and I rather side with Wilts in believing Labour will pick up 20 or so seats in Scotland. Though, to mangle a cliche, a year is an eternity in politics, and if more smelly stuff flies fanwards regarding Sturgeon et al owt could happen
October 6, 2023 at 13:36 #1665798Stay-at-home SNP voters definitely made a big difference to the overall majority.
I am usually a Conservative voter, but if a voter in this by election I’d have voted Labour too.
Suspect many Liberal voters did the same.At the moment I think Labour will do well to reach 20 seats, but what happens to the shipping forecast and treasure hunt may change that.
