    KICKBOXER 33/1

In the past this race gone to a horse who was down the field in Wokingham like Genki but last two years that pattern gone.
Last year a 3yo in Magical Memory won. year before a horse who missed out on Wokingham Intrinsic came here won in good style. And think a horse who missed the cut in Wokingham can win here. For me KICKBOXER is a horse who i felt has a big handicap in him 5th last time out was 1st run of the year. when you see boys in blue picking up one big handicap after another no reason why this horse can’t do the same.

Good luck with Kickboxer Darren, looks a solid pick to me, and the 33’s looks way too big, even at this stage.

Been a fairly decent race for me over the years, with a few winners, and some decent places as well, so hope for more of the same here.

Didn’t bet many horses on their own at Royal Ascot, but my biggest was Huntsmans Close, and he was very poor in The Wokingham. At a stretch, the ground maybe wasn’t ideal, so if he makes it on the day, I’d find it hard not to give him a second chance. 6th last year off 4lbs higher, so the 25’s looks fair.

Don’t know whether or not to have a play just now, but sorely tempted…………..the only problem there’s a stack that catch my eye

    There’s plenty Darren

My problem with the early stages of these races, is sometimes the heart rules the head, and I find it hard to not have the heart ruling the head, and that would apply to regulars of mine, like Hillbilly Boy, Poyle Vinnie, and Tatlisu, who all catch the eye…….and at big prices too.

There are a few others though, who I’ve given a long look. I really liked the way Growl won last time, and he’s well on the radar at the 25’s. Orions Bow continues to impress, and not surprised to see him as low as 14’s.

Blaine did me a favour at Epsom, though he has flopped in this before, but despite that reverse, he did win in style last time, and I’ve given him some thought, along with the likes of Toofi, Glen Moss, Hoofalong, and though struggling to get in, A Momentofmadness. Madness is entered up next week, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on him then.

My three against the field at this early stage would be GOLDEN STEPS which won the consolation for the Stewards Cup last year and has had a couple of races to get over running in Dohar.

NINJAGO which would have finished in the frame(Probably) if it hadn’t got hampered in the race last year.

And MULLIONHEIR which may not get in but if it does it would have a serious chance on decent ground.

Others to mention include GROWL, DANCING STAR and C NOTE.

If I was forced to have a bet it would probably be on NINJAGO at 25/1 but I am keeping the powder dry at the moment.

Just took 10-1 on Taneen. Could well see this 3-1 Fav by the end of the week.

The betting seems all over the place for the Stewards Cup, with Brando varying from 7/1 to 14/1.

Taneen is entered up this week and we will see how he does off his new 101 rating.

Magical Memory broke my stats by winning this as a 3yo last season, with Danetime in 1997 being the last 3yo to win it and they were the only two of that age to win it since 1983.

I did Toofi in the Wokingham but he was too far back before closing late on. It’s hard to see Goodwood helping him with that style of running and he looks poor value this time at about 10/1.

Stablemate Outback Traveller won that race but is up 7lbs now. The second, Brando, and third Glen Moss have both won since, so you could see why the 5th horse there, Buckstay would be popular re-opposing on better terms.

Hold Tight is lightly raced and Godolphin have been going well but he’s inexperienced for this sort of test/

Go Far was third last season and looks laid out again after winning at Goodwood in May and not being seen since. However that race stank and he’s just not as well handicapped as last season.

Golden Steps won it last year but did little afterwards. However, he is now back to just 3lbs higher than last seasons winning mark, so perhaps he may not be too badly treated.

Orion’s Bow is on a roll but at 97 his mark is up from the first handicap he won off 69 and maybe that’s catch up time for the handicapper in this massive field.

Double Up looks a 5F horse.

Dancing Star looks a nice sprint prospect and I thought I had a winner with her last time but she was mown down by Mr Lupton at York. She has won at Goodwood over 6f but she was put up a rather harsh 7lbs in the ratings for being second and she belongs to the bogey 3yo age group.

I think I will wait to see how some of these upcoming sprints go before making a pick but to me Taneen looks like one of those sexy Roger Varian types that get backed in and end up being a honey trap for punters.

I would probably chance Orion’s Bow if forced to pick right now, as nothing succeeds like success and perhaps he could defy another rise, having gone up two stones already.

Toofi, as a one time only winner, looks poor value to me.

    Good luck to all.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Correct entered in the Betfred Mobile Stakes (Heritage Handicap) on Thursday which is the same race as Magical Memory won last year before the Stewards Cup.

I was really shocked to see Skybet price up at 6-1 just now which i took.

Taneen was entered in the Sandy Lane and i think the Jersey Stakes but looks like the handicap route is being taken. Very impressive last time out that horse was.

Taneen was impressive last time but his handicap mark has gone up 12lbs now and that last race hasn’t worked out that well since.

Dancing Star was one I thought had won for me last time at York but she was caught by Mr Lupton, who later went on to look a little uneasy and outpaced on the Newcastle all-weather surface.

Last years winning trainer of the Mobile Sprint, Charlie Hills has a couple of interesting entries here, coming in off the back of wins.

The one who catches my eye on Thursday is Show Stealer. This is another horse who spoiled one of my naps when coming to catch Marsha, who was an 8/1 shot I fancied that day. Show Stealer was 22/1 that day but there seemed no fluke about it and the form has worked out well

2nd horse Marsha, ran in a group 3 before winning a handicap, 3rd horse Mr Lupton won and two others from the race have also won since.

Not seen out since that race, Show Stealer is up to 92 and may still be fairly treated on that. She had a good season last year with all good runs apart from when pitched in too high in group 3 company when rated just 85. I feel at 10/1 she looks the value.

Good luck with Taneen, he’s certainly a nice prospect. Just the shortish price/Roger Varian combination puts me off.

Show Stealer 10/1 Betfred Mobile Handicap

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Good enough runs from Taneen and Show Stealer but Dancing Star must go favourite for the Stewards Cup now.

She’s improving and must be group potential.

I feel Show Stealer was never quite liking this fast ground.

Dancing Star it is for Goodwood though.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Even though the handicapper has slapped Orion’s Bow with another 9lbs I just can’t see him not winning it…talk about the old saying of backing a sprinter in form….well, there’s certainly no better in form sprinter anywhere!

Dandy one of three trainers to look out for in recent times along with Roger Charlton and Willie Haggas…

Orion’s Bow reminds me so much of the last winner I backed in this and interestingly was the horse he brushed aside on his latest canter last Friday….

Hoof It carried 10st off a mark of 105 to land this race and Dandy’s in form sprinter will follow in his footsteps IMO…can’t see him being 8’s on the day…unless there’s a bad draw bias he gets on the wrong end of…

Orion’s Bow was my early fancy but the concern was whether they would run him again and now that they have he is up to 106 and that is some 37 lbs higher than his first winning mark this season. He may well win this and become group rated in the process.

He must be one of the most progressive sprinters/horses in some time and at the current rate he could threaten the best with another 10-12 lbs improvement.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Zam, I threw a few quid Orions way last week at the 14’s, and also threw a few his way on Friday, so happy with him overall, and if he comes up short he owes me nothing after that Hamilton Romp. Still like Huntsmans Close, but Orions does look rock solid.

Had a look again at this race this morning.

I dont know if it is just me but Raucous looks very well treated here.

Past history shows he is suited by a fast surface

Last time out ( 6 F ) had a TT fitted for the first time and beaten 1 3/4 l by the Tin Man receiving 5 lbs which he wears today along with CP.

Runs now in this race off 8 stone 12

Not the best of draws, but had a good punt 5 places @ 20/1

This looks decidedly tricky even for a Stewards Cup.

I am on NINJAGO who has ran well in this twice before and has blinkers on !! 33/1
BACCARAT because I think it will like the ground and 33/1 seems a bit of an insult
and finally RIDGE RANGER who may be still improving and absolutely hosed up in a five furlong race at the meeting last year 16/1

But to be honest I can make a case for about ten of them!! and the pace is both sides with Red Pike one side and Swift Approval the other

I have selected 4 for this race in Dancing Star, Toofi, Kimberella & Raucous. My main hope will be Toofi, 2 runs this season with Robert Cowell from Roger Varian’s yard, his comeback was an OK effort over 5f and then another decent effort on good to soft over 6f at Royal Ascot.

He was consistent last year which included a runner up effort in this race so I think he is good enough value at 10/1. I’m ready to lose some money B-)
