I’ve got a good price about Los Angeles but although on “form” his win in the Irish Derby makes his chance of winning greater should he run… The number of St Leger types Coolmore have combined with (as yet) the lack of a credible challenge from Godolphin / Gosdens… May well convince Coolmore to run their lesser stayers. Freeing up Los Angeles to go for the Arc / top 12f races.
Have laid some of my LA bet back @ 4.6.
Value Is EverythingJuly 2, 2024 at 23:19 #1700626Be aswell laying all of it back, he hasnt a prayer in this, he wont stay and he wont beat highbury
July 3, 2024 at 00:43 #1700627LOL Why won’t he stay, ham?
Value Is EverythingJuly 3, 2024 at 11:58 #1700638We came here thinking that he was going to turn into a Leger horse but Ryan said he has way more class than that – Aidan O’Brien, trainer.
Might be a concern for backers.
He’s shown absolutely zero to suggest he won’t?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!July 3, 2024 at 13:14 #1700642I have 8/1 against Los Angeles but I must admit I am tempted to take a leaf out of Mike’s book and hit the cash out button. Winning at The Curragh makes it less likely he will run here. I think he will be trained for the Arc instead.
July 3, 2024 at 13:37 #1700646I would hope they run him in the King George against the older horses, if he’s put in his place there they will probably come here.
July 3, 2024 at 13:57 #1700649I’ve now laid all my stake on LA back at 4.6, much shorter than I backed him. So nothing risked but still a very reasonable profit were he still to win.
Value Is EverythingJuly 3, 2024 at 14:12 #1700651tbh I am expecting at least some more improvement in LA in his next start – his size means he should improve well into his 4 year old campaign. But it is really the fact Coolmore have so many other good staying prospects that leads me to the conclusion they don’t need to run LA at Doncaster to win the Leger. Right now – even without LA – they have three of the first 4 in the betting and possibly more to come. It’s Coolmore Vs Sunway.
If it came up soft at Longchamp for the Arc, then without LA Coolmore would be struggling ton find a runner. Opera Singer a possible, but will she stay 12f on soft ground? Wouldn’t Coolmore want two runners anyway?
Value Is EverythingJuly 17, 2024 at 19:59 #1702034I doubt Los Angeles will go to Doncaster. Either king george or arc trial my guess. Coolmore have so many options it’s unreal. Jan brugel will probably end up being ridden by Ryan unless illinois runs in it.

Ryan will probably riding in Ireland the same day it’s Irish champions day with several group onesJuly 18, 2024 at 18:09 #1702076Sorry sa,I assumed they weren’t going to clash again. James Doyle or Tom marquand probably get the plum coolmore ride. Be happy with either of those on Jan brugel.
August 5, 2024 at 20:50 #1704075I cashed out LA in the end, due to the uncertainty of him running.
Can always go back in if they decide to run.
August 21, 2024 at 14:53 #1705199Las Vegas and Illinois run today in the Voltigeur. Las Vegas with a 5 lb penalty and Illinois with a 3lb pen. If LA wins they might think he’s too good for the Leger.
Value Is EverythingAugust 21, 2024 at 15:11 #1705203LA Irish Champion then Arc by the look of it.
August 21, 2024 at 16:03 #1705244Cashed out on Los Angeles for minuscule profit. Based on Moore’s interview on RTV, there is no chance of him running on Town Moor.
August 21, 2024 at 16:43 #1705258I wouldn’t say LA is an Irish Champion Stakes horse exactly, but horses are more adaptable if given the pace needed. On soft ground in a strongly run race at 10f he’ll probably have enough speed to maintain a level speed from start to finish… They’re probably thinking of the Irish Champion because Rodin would be inconvenienced / would not run if it’s at all on the soft side. If Coolmore can win a 10f race with LA it’ll help his stud career (if wanting a flat stallion)…Arc seems the long term / biggest target for LA though.
…And Coolmore have the St Leger market pretty much sewn up even without LA.Value Is EverythingAugust 21, 2024 at 17:17 #1705263LA reminds me a bit of Yeats and I could well see him being a proper Cup horse next season, especially with another season to strengthen up. Somehow I doubt connections will go that route with him.
He doesn’t have the basic speed for a drop back to 10F (when they initially quickened at the top of the straight today he was immediately off the bridle and it took him awhile to hit top gear and reel them back in) and he was outspeeded at Epsom before staying on again so to me I think 12F is the bare minimum for him.
Doncaster’s big long straight would be tailor made for his relentless galloping style of racing, especially off the back of a pacemaker setting a strong gallop. Lets not forget he won over 10F on very soft ground in France as a 2yr old, so stamina was always going to be his forte and they should take advantage of that.
