    Agree
and he didn’t like being taken on by Broome either
if something hassles him for the lead he’s screwed
    don’t think he’ll run personally

    St Leger remaining entries

    Anchorage Aidan O’Brien
    Bluegrass Aidan O’Brien
    Eldar Eldarov Roger Varian
    French Claim Paddy Twomey
    Giavellotto Marco Botti
    Hoo Ya Mal George Boughey
    New London Charlie Appleby
    Secret State Charlie Appleby
    United Nations Aidan O’Brien
    Waterville Aidan O’Brien
    Zechariah Freddie and Martyn Meade
    Emily Dickinson Aidan O’Brien
    Lizzie Jean Ivan Furtado

First went to the St Leger in 1978z

The race is often priced up as if it’s 1m4f and it isn’t.

Assume any 1m4f 3yo will automatically stay the trip at your peril.

14/1 Zechariah looks ok to me – better now than he was at Royal Ascot?

New London looks too short a price at 4-6. Hoo Ya Mal’s jockey dropped his whip so could only go hands and heels in the last furlong at Goodwood having his first run for new yard. 14-1 looks big in comparison for a Derby runner up. So Eldar Eldarov 18-1 ew and Hoo Ya Mal 14-1 ew it is then.

Looks like an awful renewal to me

New London is priced up like he’s as good as hurricane lane was

And he hasn’t shown that level of form at all

Eldar Eldarov has a huge chance imo

Francesco clemente another example of the gosden radio silence. We weren’t told why he missed the voltigeur and no surprise to see him scratched here too.

“Thady, my boy, if there’s one thing worse than one of those grubby little jumped-up proles one has to employ to ride one’s horses, it’s those even grubbier proles who bet on them and don’t seem to know their place.”

From Alleged (watching on telly) in 1977 and Ile De Bourbon (was there) in 1978 onwards, I’ve seen a fair few quality 1m4f 3yos prove not quite as effective at the St Leger trip.

And you know what the media said about each and every one of them in the run up to the race?

“There’s no reason to suppose he won’t stay.”

Betting shop bins are full of losing tickets due to that mentality.

At current odds, New London can win without my money on him.

The Queen’s Vase might hold the key to where the value is.

“Looks like an awful renewal to me.”

It is an absolute shocker. An odds on favourite that on its last two starts has won a handicap and a Group 3.

At least there has got to be some value lurking somewhere.

When the highest OR going into a Group 1 is 116 you know it’s a Group 1 in name only.

That said, if something wins it by a street, it could yet produce a genuine Group 1 3yo.

But I couldn’t have the odds-on favourite – he’s a nice progressive colt, but his sire failed to get the trip in The Derby and, though the dam is related to Masked Marvel, she herself only had form at up to 1m2f.

    Absolutely.

Year after year it seems to me the St Leger is priced up as if it’s a 1m4f contest when it isn’t.

Yes, some 1m4f 3yos get the extended 1m6f trip, but plenty don’t.

    I’ve backed Zechariah at 14/1.

I daresay New London would crucify him over 1m4f and he might beat him in the Leger, but I know which one is sure to get the trip and he’s still ten times the price of the jolly.

Is “Detroit” the alias he’s riding under because he copped for a whip ban in Germany today?

Joking aside, maybe it doesn’t take effect by then and he can ride Haskoy.

    9 declared…

    Eldar Eldarov
    El Habeeb
    French Claim
    Giavellotto
    Hoo Ya Mal
    New London
    Emily Dickinson
    Haskoy
    Lizzie Jean

Hopefully one of my two can upset the favourite.
Nothing of note from AOB or Gosden, as an overall field its right up there in the ‘lacks depth’ stakes I would say.

    Surprised no zechariah

I think eldar eldarov has a huge chance of turning over the fav

A bit of rain to make it a real stamina test would very much aid him I think

    Doncaster have cancelled Friday’s meeting.

    No decision yet about Saturday.
