Lionel 18-1 ew
June 8, 2022 at 10:43 #1601219Funnily enough I backed Lionel win only at 16/1 a week or two ago – looks like I bet under the odds!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 8, 2022 at 11:49 #16012249/2 Westover seems more than fair to me along with 14/1 Changingoftheguard.
Value Is EverythingJune 8, 2022 at 12:51 #1601236You’d think Doncaster would suit a big long striding galloper like westover very well
June 8, 2022 at 13:28 #1601238If losing the Irish Derby then Westover is pretty certain to be going to Donny. If winning in Ireland suppose might go for the Arc, but (provided he doesn’t win by a long way) the Leger will still be his best chance of further Group 1 glory… And could go for both.
Trainer Ralph Beckett is often in good form that time of year and has won the leger before. Westover already has as good a Timeform rating as Simple Verse (including her 3 lb fillies allowance) and is still improving.

Was the Queen’s Vase late off?
Was this before or after the Queen’s Vase, Mike?Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2022 at 16:06 #1602771Before the off.
June 17, 2022 at 21:00 #1602859Bit naughty placing a bet before the race then claiming the price after the horse won
Would you have posted the bet had he not got up?
June 18, 2022 at 09:42 #1602929It was a decision close to the off so good idea to watch the race :o)
I’ve tried my luck similarly before at times, if it don’t work out I cash out so nothing to post.June 18, 2022 at 09:52 #1602935I backed Eldar Eldorov at 500/1 for the St Leger as a yearling, 5,000/1 as a foal and at 50,000/1 when his dam was tested in foal with him.
I then cashed out/”greened up” after the Queen’s Vase.
Slipped my mind to mention all this until now.

For a big loss surely?
June 18, 2022 at 10:35 #1602953Before they restricted me, Bet365 used to let me cash out for 90% of my stake.
But the other bookmakers’ terms were dreadful and heavily slanted in their favour mathematically.
Each to their own, but it wouldn’t be for me as a betting strategy.

There can be a loss involved if the horse subsequently drifts, that’s the risk with antepost.
June 18, 2022 at 10:58 #1602973I would imagine if you back a horse ante post at 14/1 before it runs and it then gets stuffed and is out to say 25/1 the cash-out value would be 10% or even less, with many books not letting you cash out at all.

June 19, 2022 at 11:04 #1603280You could “cash out” on the exchanges even if your back bet is with bookmakers, just by laying it to win the same amount for the Lay as you lose on the Back bet with the bookie. However, once a horse is “injured” or runs poorly the amount of money needed to get your money back laying a horse @ 25/1 is absolutely enormous… and the horse could still win!
e.g Tuesday was if I remember rightly around 4/1 favourite for the Oaks after the English 1000. Went out in price after Emily Upjohn won the Musidora. Further out when it became apparent she’d run in the Irish 1000… And again after disappointing a little in that race… And then drifted markedly when it seemed she would not recover in time and thought a probable non-runner. I think someone mentioned she touched 20/1. If someone backed Tuesday @ 4/1 and then laid her to get back the full stake @ 20/1 they’d have lost a hell of a lot when she won… Unless they again backed her when evident she was running… In which case they’d in all probability be facing fairly big losses whatever happened.
