Have only just seen the race.
Kite Wood was given every opportunity by Frankie, but appeared to be outstayed by Mastery.
It’s hard to see where the top 12F horses are going to come from next year and Kite Wood, given the chance to dominate or sit off a strong pace, would be very competitive. Make no mistake, he’ll line up for the Coronation Cup next year.
Godolphin already have Schiaparelli (Goodwood Cup winner) and Mastery (Queens Vase third and stayed-on past Kite Wood at Donny) as potential Cup horses next year and the early season targets of the Leger 1-2 suggest they thought Kite Wood would be more competitive over shorter distances.
One horse that could potentially develop into a serious Cup horse next season is Mourayan, who stayed-on from the back in very eyecatching fashion.
Tons of ability and another who, like Kite Wood, should be even better next year.
