I’m staggered Starman is so short. Finished a mere head in front of Brando LTO, and forget the official French going report of ‘Soft’, a quick check of the times and it was obviously ‘Good’.

I think he’s justified being so short – he’s beaten literally all of these bar Nando Perrado and Happy Romance in the July Cup. Can’t see any reason why the second fav will reverse the form here. The only other G1 winners in the field – Glen Shiel needs it as soft as possible and Supremacy who almost certainly hasn’t trained on. There’s no depth in the sprint division and that is reflected in the fact he’s the only one who has what you’d call a true G1 rating the rest are more of a G2 and downwards standard.

Agree Starman is a worthy favourite and likeliest winner, but he is priced up like he is infallible, not a horse who got beaten fair and square on Good ground LTO and beat Brando a head. I admit I am sweet on my pick who looks transformed in his last two runs and I have a large P next to his 115 G2 rating.

    Looking forward to the race.

Wasn’t decent ground like they have here last time. Watching the race it was clear to see that the ground was too tacky for Starman.

It was a fraction from being a standard time. Good ground or very very close to it.

It has turned into a race to just watch. Agree that Starman is a very short price now for a horse who was beaten last time out when having every chance. But he was seriously impressive at Newmarket (visually and on the clock) and I am not in a hurry to bet against him.

I notice RP Spotlight are also giving Starman the excuse of ‘Soft’ ground for his reversal LTO in France. Am I incorrect to check the time, see it is nigh-on ‘Standard’ and assume the ground is pretty much ‘Good’?

Would be grateful to be put right here by someone more knowledgable than me, one way or another.

Good that Haydock Park haven’t watered.

Bad that they have done the right thing for entirely the wrong reasons – to make it as favourable as possible for the favourite.

I don’t think this is as straight forward an event as is being made out in the racing press. If I was a Starman backer I’d take a very close look at the race in France. Beaten by a better horse on the day and did not go through with his run once the race was lost even losing second place in the finish.
Cannot have all been about the ground. Two horses who are very likely to put a full shift in are Summerghand and Chi chi.
Frankie rides Nando parado and I see him going off like a bat out of hell and setting things up for the field.
And then Creative Force is also in the mix. Lots of threats there and of course there is the draw…..
To be fair Starman was running over a longer trip last time and the ground had plenty of cut In it. So actually a very good runout for today which should at least put him spot on now.

Do not fancy lumping on Starman but do not really fancy taking him on.

Hills were going 3/1 against him winning by over a length, so I have had the maximum £10 permitted for a bit of betting interest.

I wish I had the big prices, but I’m left with 10-1 for Emaraaty Ana

I think starman will win but not sure enough to punt on at his price , even taking away his run last time while he won July cup 3 lengths covered around the 8 to 9 behind , looking at the race I’m with price wise with chil chil , looks value and Balding is having a dream season

“I think 33/1 is very generous, only 5lb to find with Starman on ORs.”

You are some judge, TTC – well done.
