    Entries out…..

It’s usually a straightforward selection for me in this. Brando. He’s got an entry again, he’s sure to run, and he looks big at 50’s after his run in The July Cup. Its a nice price, but I’ll wait until the day. He’ll definitely be bet, and it’ll be five years in a row now I’ve bet him in this.

Brando will obviously be a sentimental selection, but not for the first time this year, I’m also looking at Romantic Proposal. I’ve bet her in The Sapphire tomorrow, and also The Nunthorpe. If she doesn’t win at The Curragh, I think I can forget here and York. For that reason I’m not betting her yet, but I’ll maybe try and nick a price, should things go well at The Curragh. Nice looking price though.

No bet yet then, but very tempted…

Brando could have finished much closer in the July Cup as his run found a bit of trouble at the wrong time albeit had no chance with the winner but a place or two higher wouldn’t have been out of the question

This is a tricky one as I normally look to the classic generation but I’m pretty certain Dragon Symbol who would be the leading contender from that group was beaten on merit and beaten pretty easily by Starman at Newmarket. If it came up good or quicker I can’t see anything beating Starman anywhere over 6F I think he’s that good but I think the fact he’s generally 7/2 tells you that most layers think its highly unlikely to be quick ground at Haydock.

Art Power looks the one for me here. I’m fairly certain he’s improved this season and been a little unlucky in both Group 1’s, particularly Newmarket. A flat track with some cut in the ground sounds perfect to me for him and I just feel he’s going the right way still whereas Glen Shiel for example who I also considered is at his peak already and was only a length or so better than Art Power when Art Power was a 3yo.

Not surprised to see money today for Starman given the forecast.

Strange looking market for this at the moment. No point not waiting for the day now. Got my eye on Kinross and / or Creative Force if we get a bit of cut. Only needs a stag do on a session pissing on the track to make it Heavy at Haydock!

The price has gone completely on starman now

Into 7/4 which looks very short

Dragon Symbol isn’t an intended runner so worthy opposition starting to thin out.

Finally had a bet in this, and took the 33’s on Brando. I’ll have an EW bet after Final Decs, as there’s usually at least one extra place in this.

I’d definitely expect him to run a bigger race at Ascot, but happy to stick with him here.

Interesting that Gustavus Weston stands his ground. If he ran, I’d consider a backup on him. He’s a likeable type too.

I’ve had a bet too on a Kevin Ryan 33/1 shot too VTC, but mine is Emeraaty Ana. A big career best LTO showing smart pace to stay on behind the rapid Winter Power. Clearly bang in form, and probably on the upgrade on quick ground to my eyes (and probably everyone elses in fairness). Atzeni jocked up, so an obvious intended runner. I think 33/1 is very generous, only 5lb to find with Starman on OR’s.

    3 pts e/w Emeraaty Ana 33/1 (BaldFred).

We should probably have 50p on the RFC!

I cannot believe Haydock are considering watering. I will be extremely pissed off if they do, ludicrous.

As will every single person who has backed starman

We will see the effects of over watering in the next month or so

When tracks go from gd to heavy after one rain storm due to the hose pipes being on all summer

Its the main reason champions day is run on a bog every year

Watering at Haydock. A track where they clamber over the last fence and crawl over the line in the NH season.

The decision was to be made today apparently. With no rain, I fear the idiots may be drenching the Haydock swamp as we speak. Is there any way the mushrooms like us can find out if this is happening? I’d back out of Emeraaty Ana, having beaten the market or not.

    Ground now good to firm

If starman runs to his July cup level I really can’t see him being beaten unless creative force takes a big step forward

And it’ll need to be a huge one as the 3yos are getting much less weight than in the July cup

Unusually very confident Emeraaty Ana will run a massive race if it is rattling. Keep those taps off.
