Does anyone know when (or if) Southwell will return, as I’ve today claimed a horse which I believe would be ideal for the surface.
Thanks

September 24, 2007 at 18:14 #116233Last I read they were hoping for late November, the damage to the track was not as bad as first thought
September 24, 2007 at 18:30 #116235All Southwell fixtures untiil 4 Dec have been transferred keep your eye on the Southwell fixture list on their website to see if anymore are transferred.
September 24, 2007 at 18:54 #116243I’m sure you know she’s already a Southwell winner. On turf!
September 24, 2007 at 19:18 #116246Yes I did realise it was on turf. Honest!!
But although she hasn’t beaten a horse on the AW (both on Polytrack) her prominent style of running might just suit Fibresand.
September 24, 2007 at 22:56 #116283Just hope the handicapper doesn’t drop you too much after today- will make life difficult! Good luck from a fellow owner of a 54 rated superstar!

Well done Alan, a first time win from a horse claimed out of a seller, Smash N’Grab is an appropriate name for her.

October 4, 2007 at 19:47 #117976I can’t see that many people would mourn the place if it never opened again ~ in fact I know many who would positively celebrate and have been calling for the place to be bombed for years!
It’s a hole with nothing whatsoever to recommend it.
October 4, 2007 at 20:58 #117986specsavers for you two then …
October 5, 2007 at 08:12 #118038Thanks AP it was certainly the longest final furlong of my life.
Hopefully I can have some more fun with her for the rest of the year before she retires to have babies, but I doubt very much if we’ll find a weaker race than last nights again!
October 5, 2007 at 11:15 #118076Your win highlights the policy of the official handicapper this year of dropping horses significantly after bad runs. It’s a two-edged sword, good in that it makes your horse more competitive, but at our end of the scale it can make it very hard to find a race. it will be interesting to see if the Curleys and Prescotts get the same generosity!
October 9, 2007 at 07:56 #118626Smash N’Grab only raisd 1lb for that win – are you engaged to the handicapper’s daughter Alan ?

October 9, 2007 at 08:41 #1186311 lb up!!
I thought she should go down in the handicap as she only won that dismal race by a short head.

Couldn’t agree less – it’s a super venue for summer jumping (I’ve been at least half dozen times specifically for that), and it’s the nearest thing I have to a lucrative Flat course. It’s not over-blessed with beauty, but for affordable, unpretentious fun I can think of far worse. I love the open sweet shop also.
