Are we all agreed that we must wait for 3 year olds to win decisively in all aged Group 1 company before showering them with such superlatives?

Yes, agreed but as I said somewhere else neither should we give up on him straight away. Give him another chance I say!

Was this thread inspired by the ‘eclipse’ of Authorized?

I don’t think a 3YO has to win decisively against older horses – a win is a win. I don’t even think the term ‘give him another chance’ applies here. The horse deserves credit for running the great race that he has – only beaten by an inspired and brave piece of riding.

If you want Authorized to win in grand style against his elders then you won’t have to wait too long – about three months. I hope you like French food…

Kris Kin, North Sh..sorry Light, Sir Percy. Possible exceptions for Motivator and Authorized who haven’t been well and truly stuffed since the Derby but it’s a poor race, the chances are the winner won’t do anything afterwards and anyone with a decent 3yo colt will do well to avoid it like the plague.

Just can’t take to Notnowcato, absoluetly destroyed by Manduro & Dylan Thomas on ground that flat racers are suppose to run on. Jumped up handicapper that some how managed to win 3 group 1’s, " absoluete total mystery" ???. No doubt he will end up as a jump sire

I certainly wouldn’t write off Authorized. Indeed his performance yesterday strongly suggests that he will be up to winning at this level.

However, it also suggested that he perhaps isn’t the reincarnation of Pegasus that some thought after Epsom.

    Good call, TDK.

How would you price up a rematch between Authorized, Notnowcato and George Washington at 10f on ground just on the soft side of good (i.e. similar to yesterday) and on a course where no track bias was likely?

I asked a representative sample of on-course Midlands back-line fiddlers and they said:

    1/3 Authorized
    1/2 George Washington
    11-10 Notnowcato

    To a pony.

    Must be right.

Agreed,I have thought for years that when the racing press tip up a horse,or back it ante-post,and the horse wins a big race they are overrated by 7 to 10 lb’s.I have done this myself, but it is only my own bank that suffers. :D

If you go to back a certainty always buy a return ticket.

Given that I hold El Gran Senor in such high regard, the logical answer to TDK’s question as far as I am concerned is "no". However, it is clearly desirable that supposedly top-class three-year-olds be properly tested aginst their elders where possible. El Gran Senor never got that chance but those of us who saw him will have no doubt that he would have passed the test. But there’s no way of proving it.

    :?:

Could any of you IT wizards explain why I can only read the left half of the posts on this thread?
There is no right/left adjustment, and reducing text size doesn’t help either?

Edit out the ?’s MM, as the text can’t justify itself. Should go back to normal then.

Try clicking on maximise (top right hand corner). Maybe that will help?
