I’ve never taken to Ronnie but to keep winning after all the years to go along with his ability is something else

January 6, 2024 at 08:26 #1676375The beer stains have been cleaned up after the darts and Ally Pally has had the table fitters in for the more serene but no less gripping Masters. No teenagers here either, mostly players born in the 70s and 80s.
O’Sullivan Vs Ding the obvious standout first round tie, it being a rematch of the UK final.
Good luck if you’re punting. With only three at single figure odds it’s got to be worth an each way on someone at a price.

January 14, 2024 at 17:57 #1677371Nicely poised ahead of the final session. As much as I like O’Sullivan, I have to say I am on Carter’s side today. He may never get a better chance to win a Triple Crown event again and I’d love to see him do it.
January 14, 2024 at 18:22 #1677375I was out and about this afternoon but looking forward to the final session. The first frame tonight looks vital. If Carter wins it, O’Sullivan is going to have to play well just to get back into the match.

You were right about an each way poke.. Think Carter was the rank outsider at the start
He was great last night, haven’t watched any of the final this afternoon but will tune in tonightGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
January 14, 2024 at 18:58 #1677380Yes I can’t imagine he was any higher than the bottom three in the betting, I certainly wouldn’t have picked him out.
I saw some of it, 5-3 seemed fair. O’Sullivan was playing some loose shots and Carter punished him for it.
January 15, 2024 at 10:26 #1677442A tough defeat for Carter, especially when he had to give an interview to that idiot afterwards (Hazel Irvine would have conducted it with more professionalism and tact).
At his age, you have to wonder if he will ever have a better chance to win a Triple Crown event. 6-3 up but then O’Sullivan reeled off 7 frames out of 8.
I suppose it showed the difference between a great player and a merely good player. O’Sullivan found an extra gear, Carter couldn’t.
His two misses in the last frame were poor. You can’t throw away chances like that but I think he was mentally finished by then.
It sounds like there is a bit of needle between them.
January 15, 2024 at 11:41 #1677450It was a bit of an anticlimax in the end, at 6-3 the upset seemed on but once it was 6 all at the interval you knew it was one way traffic. I don’t think we witnessed vintage O’Sullivan but he didn’t have to be and he had had enough to get it done. As you say, he found extra when Carter couldn’t.
That tricky missed pink at 7 all was probably the final turning point. His own fault for running out of position of course. After that it all seemed rather inevitable.
January 15, 2024 at 16:14 #1677468I tuned in just as they went for the break, watched O’Sullivan go 7-6 and went to bed
I haven’t seen anything but heard that there was a bit of atmosphere and comments made
it wouldn’t surprise me as both are ar$eholes in attitude.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
January 15, 2024 at 16:42 #1677469Carter quoted Jimmy White’s “He’s beginning to annoy me” line about Hendry but without the humour or charm. O’Sullivan then as good as said Carter played rubbish and bottled it.
January 15, 2024 at 17:11 #1677471Thanks, yes that’s what I was told
Carter likes a bit of needle.. I think he tries to intimidate opponents at times. Wasn’t it O’Sullivan where they walked into each other between shots?Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

January 15, 2024 at 17:38 #1677473Yes I certainly didn’t get the impression that they would be going for a friendly pint afterwards.
The ‘beginning to annoy me’ quote certainly didn’t land, I’m not sure half the crowd got it. Although that said, I did get it but didn’t think it was particularly funny, sounded bitter I thought.
The boorish ‘go on Ronnie’ brigade are equally tedious, the entirely unfunny ‘good shot’ after the break off for example. Not that I think O’Sullivan courts them particularly.
There’s been some good matches but certainly not a classic final, you didn’t miss much Nathan.
Will be interesting to see if he can complete the season Triple Crown, one of the few things he’s never done.
January 15, 2024 at 17:51 #1677476O’Sullivan rubbed it in a bit when he did his “I played rubbish but still won” routine.
If O’Sullivan does win the World Championship, the BBC will have to include him on the SPOTY shortlist, even in an Olympics year. Maybe they will have to increase the list from six to something like ten.
I still wouldn’t back him, though. Some Olympic gold medallist will be given far more publicity.
