Poor Sir Gino – so unlucky to get this infection again on top of his physical injury … such a talented and handsome lad too – I hoped he would recover and be given a quieter but still active life.
March 25, 2026 at 16:49 #1760941Really distasteful for you Ruby light to offer Henderson no sympathy’s. How was he to foretell that the horse would pick up an infection?
Nicky Henderson has in my minds eye suffered more rotten luck with horses being fatally injured over the years than most.
I was at Doncaster the day Darlan fell and died. Seems to me like he’s had far more than his fair share of bad luck since. I’m sure he’s feeling the grief and sadness more than most.
March 25, 2026 at 17:06 #1760943Well TC, I stand by my distasteful comments regarding Nicky Henderson. A bloke who was worth at least 8 million in 2024 will get over that. He’ll get some new horses for the new season and the tales he tells to the public will be the same. I’m not suggesting (and I never did that before) that he’s treating his horses badly, but the entire drama surrounding his stable and just his stable is quite annoying.
He is a great trainer and I think he is far from retiring, but I just don’t buy some of his stories.
March 25, 2026 at 18:52 #1760956I don’t think it’s all his fault. It was the news media that built CH up into a superhorse and they’re always desperate for a story.
March 25, 2026 at 20:08 #1760979While seeing the names of deceased horses in this thread week after week, it’s routine to bless and respect them without making a post.
Sometimes, there are names of more popular horses who need a mention to remind how much pleasure they gave us during their wonderful careers.
Rarely, a name will prematurely appear here like a large crack in glass…Seeing Sir Gino’s name here hits hard. Haven’t felt this bad for a horse since St Nicholas Abbey passed away 12 years ago. My heart goes out to all connections to him. Utterly heartbreaking.
Sir Gino was one of the most talented horses I’ve ever seen. The perfect package. Slick jumper of fences and hurdles. Great temperament. Smart turn of foot. Won races in cruise control. In an alternative world, he’d have been one of the greats.God bless his wonderful soul!
March 25, 2026 at 20:33 #1760987I think what makes it worse is that he was so young and had suffered so much during his short life.
March 26, 2026 at 00:39 #1760997When I think of brave Warriors lost, like Sir Gino and just recently Envoi Allen, this Poem written by Paul Mellon in memory of Mill Reef always comes into my mind….
I think I’d like to dedicate this Poem to the wonderful Sir Gino, Envoi Allen and all the beautiful horses, famous and not so famous, that we have loved and lost. ❤️
Swift as a bird I flew down many a course.
Princes, Lords, Commoners all sang my praise.
In victory or defeat I played my part.
Remember me, all men who love the Horse,
If hearts and spirits flag in after days;
Though small, I gave my all.
I gave my heart. ❤️RIP brave Sir Gino
You gave your all and won so many hearts
We miss you.😪Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out... - AuthorPosts
