IAS bet – 1/6th odds the place.
It’s spread from the UK beting ring all the way to Australia!

    Wit,

As an aside to this thread I mentioned to the Hats – out here at the draw for the Singapore International races – that you sometimes quote his articles to seed interesting discussions on here and he was chuffed.

I’m still a fan of Pastorius – his connections are thrilled with the way he is working on the turf course – but have a high regard for Military Attack and interesting to see John Moore here today to supervise his last piece of work.

In the sprint you probably have to look at some of the locals but, if he is a big price here, I may have an e-w on Kavanagh who has worked very well this week and could spring a surprise.

    Many thanks.

In today’s SCMP he points up a possible HK double based on the draw:

    For me though:

In the Cup, stick with Red Cadeaux, even though his 6/1 is not the 28/1 of recent races.

In the Sprint, the Irish improver Balmont Mast also has the draw and at 25/1 in HK looks an EW interest.

[On the early HK tote Kavanagh is showing 18/1 the win, about three times the price on Betfair.]

double for HK with Lucky Nine and Military Attack.

Balmont Mast does a Scurlogue and fails by short-head to get third – one to watch back in Europe.

Military Attack a sublime winner. My thoughts on the run have been shared via my blog.

Did anyone else feel a little uneasy over Joao Moreira’s riding tactics aboard Super Easy entering the straight?

    post-script by Alan Aitken, SCMP:

    =======

…..We were surprised to find so little coverage of the Lion City’s biggest race day in the main newspaper, the Straits Times.

We were informed by tame locals – who, we confess, might be guessing – that it had to do with government attitudes to the promotion of gambling, and that the newspaper had stopped publishing fields or tips after being leaned upon.

We heard from the same people that this was happening with other media outlets, where people were (we are told, and didn’t dare ask them or anyone else) being asked to stick to "has a chance" as the required commentary and warned off any referencing of odds or other value judgments on whether horses were good or bad bets. Still, that’s probably to bring racing into line with casino commentators…..

…Turnover on the Hong Kong simulcast was a healthy HKD 140 million [GBP 11 million] – predictably up HKD 20 million on 2012 with favourites in both main races – which dwarfed the local figures.

Hong Kong looked to be turning over about 2 1/2 times as much as Singapore was holding itself on the races covered by both – and which also contained commingled money [ from Australia and elsewhere] – making us wonder again at the vital impact Hong Kong money will have under commingling.

At this stage, we are presuming that will be next year. Commingling in general proceeds at a satisfactory pace through the legislative intestine…..
