    WEEKEND SELECTIONS

Here’s my short list for this weekend, I’ll probably be having my first best of 2010 but I doubt if I’ll back all five, I rarely back more that two or three on the one day.
Maybe even two or three in the one week! All comments/arguments very welcoime in fact invited!!!

    Naas 12.35

COTTAGE STAR is bred for the job (By Sallie’s Girl 4th in the 1999 Stayers’ Hurdle) He won his bumper easily, well backed at 6-4, despite looking if the trip was on the short side, the extra 3 furlongs tomorrow should be ideal.
Cadspeed is the likely favourite He came over for the Festival bumper last year but finished in another parish than the rest of the field 22nd of 24.Twice beaten at odds on since, not advised even if not favourite especially with Mullins horses under a cloud.
Hellyhunter dropped out tamely when favourite against Kauto Relko may well appreciate the longer trip

    Nass 1.10

MUIRHEAD On the face of it he should only need a clear round to win as he’s a grade or two above the opposition, but he has ½ length to find with De Valira on their last run although the latter was a given a far harder ride than Muirhead. No value at any less than 8-11 a price that’s unlikely to be on offer, care advised

    Naas 1.45

ALPHA RIDGE Second to China Rock on his chasing debut at Galway, then a good second to Pandorama at Fairyhouse over 2 ½ miles, the extra 4 furlongs of this trip will be ideal. On his most recent run at Leopardstown he was eased down by Ruby Walsh after a bad mistake six out in the race won by Pandorama. Only Oscar Loopy looks to be any danger but is the best part of a stone behind Alpha Ridge on the ratings

    Naas 2.20

LUSKA LAD is a model of consistency if the sole blot on his copybook, his 7th to the useful Chicago Grey is ignored, he lost his place and was eased down. He’s raced against the very best and should find this opposition a big drop in quality.
Mr Cracker on the other hand has the ability but has flattered to deceive on more than one occasion and is not one I’d trust
The useful chaser Ballyholland makes his hurdles debut but the trip is well short of his ideal distance and this looks like a warm up for chases later in the year

    Sunday Fairyhouse 3.45

ROMANESCO (THE WEEKEND NAP) was very impressive when winning his point at Ballindenisk and looks to be in the Loosen My Load / Sizing Mexico mould. Henry De Bromhead has a strong hand with his ex-pointers and it wouldn’t be a shock if this one contested the Festival bumper. Up Ou That is another point winner trained by Willie Mullins, the flags form is not up to Romanesco’s and the Mullins horse should be watched not backed until the stable starts firing again. Also in a small field Nina Carberry usually runs rings round young Partick tactically

Naas off yesterday, selections probably stand for Tuesday
Had first bet for 2010 yesterday a mere 5 points EW on The Minack @ 3-1 Yesterday to pass some time away as much as anything …we are still snowed in.
The race looked a two horse affair, and the favourite was a chucker, he did it again at the second last…..profit on NH season now a healthy 1077 points
Missed the early price (9-4) on Romanesco this morning while taking the dog for her walk, b*gger!!!!
Reluctantly took the 6-4 now best price on offer (Ladbrokes Best Odds guaranteed) to 77 points…maybe more that I should considering the weather but he looks a really good thing

    …..that was expensive!!!
Ran into a right tartan in UP OU THAT now installed as new favourite for The Festival Bumper. After the race even Willie Mullins even sounded surprised at the manner of his win , Henry De Bromhead expected great things of his horse as the betting showed
Looks like the Mullins horses are getting back on track too
