I noticed some catchpenny book in the racing post: secrets of pricewise – world’s number one tipster.
WHAT!?
WHAT?!
Crikey, it’s a poor show if he is the best in the world.

Yeah, but he’d only be available for ‘eight weeks’ during the Flat season.

October 7, 2012 at 07:44 #415593I reckon he’s a complete chancer who looks for the Imperial Commanders of the world…………Horse that could bounce back to form and occasionally do…..guy throws you know what at the wall and some sticks and the odds are that high he only needs the odd one to stoat to show a profit.
The problem is all your spare cash might be gone by the time one of them wins.
I am playing bind here as I haven’t looked at his tips in over a year.
October 7, 2012 at 08:11 #415598Sir Tom is absolute gravy. Group 1. Top notch. I will certainly be buying the book and really look forward to reading it. I’m always impressed by how he marries race analysis, with market analysis and I love his contrarian outlook.
His piece in todays RP is classic…
On Camelot…
"…I expect him to finish much nearer the back than the front – Frankie or no Frankie"
Beautiful.
That’s how you need to look at racing if you want to make money from it imo.
p.s that Japanese sprinting horse will go the same way today…Timeform rating or no Timeform rating
October 7, 2012 at 13:39 #415647Tom is certainly top class Cav.
In my opinion probably correct about Camelot. But Orfevre won the Japanese Derby on soft. So IF that going report is correct, I don’t see how Tom can dismiss the Eastern raider as a "sprinter".
Sometimes I wonder whether some writers say things because they know punters want to hear it. Segal knows by dismissing Orfevre – punters will think he’s right if as the prices indicate (around an 80 to 85% chance) Orfevre does not win.

Timeform must know their business, seen as he came second and unlucky not to win.
October 7, 2012 at 22:50 #415744You could say that RR. I expect Tom Segal will say the "sprinter" didn’t stay.
Value Is EverythingOctober 8, 2012 at 07:20 #415762Tom’s view of Orfevre included "so with the ground an unknown and a wide draw to overcome, he’s not for me at relatively skinny odds"
The sprinter comments were my own. Big run by Orfevre. Have watched it a dozen times and still cant be sure if he idled or if his stamina in the ground ran out in the end, my hunch is the latter.
I see Sir Tom put up Wizz Kid at 10/1.

The wide draw put me off too, and Camelot felt too much like an afterthought. So went with the Prix Niel winner Saonois but that didn’t show either.

Did Pricewise have Dandy Boy at Royal Ascot? No, he did not. I don’t think he even had Thought Worthy.
I am happy to say the Flat is not my speciality. But in the winter months I often look at his selections and think: is that the best you can come up with?

You’d need a lot of Dandy Boys to be thought worthy of a comparisson with Tom Segal.
