Ridden the winners of the first three races at Perth today and almost lifted at least two of them home.
He deserves a more high profile post than stable jockey to Olly Murphy.
April 25, 2025 at 15:18 #1728252He should be Hendos new stable jockey but that’ll never happen.
If I was McManus, I’d approach him for all the UK rides. JP hasn’t had a proper jockey there since Geraghty retired.
Well, I’d actually approach Cobden first but think he’d stick with Nicholls.
April 25, 2025 at 15:24 #1728254That ride on Fairlawn Flyer must be in the top 5 rides of the season. So strong in a finish
April 25, 2025 at 15:25 #1728255Agree it probably won’t happen but Henderson should really think about it. If you were an owner, who would you want on board? Bowen or De Boinville?
The only other jobs in Britain worth having are the Skelton and Nicholls jobs but they clearly have no vacancies.
The McManus job if it arose is a possibility but I get the impression JP is having his best horses trained in Ireland nowadays.
April 25, 2025 at 20:15 #1728278CAS, Olly Murphy has 136 winners this season at 23%. The majority will have been ridden by SB and if Murphy can maintain this number/strike rate, it will virtually guarantee SB the championship. Admittedly SB has said he wants more high profile winners, but surely Murphy and Skelton will assume the mantel of Henderson and Nicholls in the next few years. Nicholls has had far more moderate horses this season.
April 25, 2025 at 20:51 #1728280I was privileged enough to be at Perth the last three days. I actually turned to a fellow race goer today and said that we were watching a masterclass.
Not many jockeys beat Skelton in a driving finish but Sean did that yesterday on Rambo T. In the first race today he was so cool when two horses went past him on the home turn. many others would have panicked in the same situation and then he lifts Fairlawn Flyer home in the big race.
I believe he rode his hundredth winner for Olly Murphy this campaign today.
April 26, 2025 at 00:18 #1728297He’s the best Jockey riding , has been all season … His ride in the Irish GN confirmed that he can beat anything they have to offer to
April 26, 2025 at 00:20 #1728298Murphy has the quantity for sure but he is very light on quality. Bowen ought to be riding in all the top races but as it stands he isn’t.
I wouldn’t want to see him become another Brian Hughes. Champion on quantity but seldom seen in Grade 1s.
April 26, 2025 at 00:50 #1728299It’s fairly straight forward , Elliott makes him his no1 jockey , Elliott has fallen well behind Mullins , one way of making a step forward is employing the best jockey , all this nonsense about he’s not irish etc , he’s the best , go get him and give Mullins something to think about
April 26, 2025 at 16:19 #1728406Was Elliott watching the “Whitbread”?
April 26, 2025 at 16:20 #1728413Hdlg, name one horse that bowen would have won on for elliott this season that any of his own jockeys wouldnt have? This nonsense that bowen is going to turn the stable around is farsical
Hes an unbelievably good jockey….. but leave off with that drivel lol
April 26, 2025 at 16:21 #1728414Fitting ride for the season finale. I wonder if he’d be interested in appointing him as a No.1 stable jockey.
April 26, 2025 at 16:25 #1728418He seems a great bloke so pleased for him.
The more I know the less I understand.
April 26, 2025 at 16:26 #1728419I still think Elliott will look to appoint an Irish jockey if Kennedy does need to be replaced. But Bowen has shown in the last few days alone that he is top drawer.
Yes, riding horses in Grade 1s brings a different level of pressure. But I have no doubt he is up to it.
April 26, 2025 at 17:02 #1728446From another angle:
Maybe Ollie Murphy will attract other owners over the coming months and more quality horses, then Bowen just stays put.
April 26, 2025 at 17:07 #1728449That is distinctly possible. I have my doubts Bowen would want to relocate to Ireland anyway. I doubt he would get an effusive welcome from the Irish weighing room, walking into one of the best jobs in Irish racing from outside.
April 26, 2025 at 21:00 #1728468Ham do you really think Ewing is as good as Bowen ? , if so you haven’t been watching closely enough , Wilts I really don’t think he would care , he just won the Irish national on Monday , I don’t imagine the weighing room was delighted about that , didn’t stop him riding the best the Irish had to sleep did it …
