if RFC are to be belived, next weeks sandown finale could well be the last.
they first wanted to finish the season on national day and then said they want it to end on gold cup day.
either way it leaves sandown out in the cold but given some poor recent runnings of the old whitbread maybe it was inevitable but il sure miss it.April 16, 2010 at 19:20 #290673Cutting the season off in March would be a disaster. Many horses, for one reason or another, won’t peak till March or April. What would they do with the National, move it to February or some daft time in October! What about the Scotish National. There has got to be a good time between the first major race of the season and the last. As for the Whitbread, or bet365 or whatever it’s called nowadays, it’s a tradition, it’s timing has always worked so far. What do the trainers think about curtailing the season?
My favourite horses - Red Rum, Spanish Steps, Proud Tarquin, Esban, Go-Pontinental, Barona, Charles Dickens, The Dikler, Astbury, Black Secret, Vulgan Town, Huperade, Well To Do, Crisp, Quintus, Argent, Colebridge, Pearl Of Montreal, Nereo, Sonny Somers, Tubs VI, Tartan Ace, Red Candle, L'Escargot, Bula, Beau Bob, Rouge Autumn, Rough Silk, Frodo, Deblin's Green, Prince Tino, Eyecatcher, The Pilgarlic, Captain Christy, Mr Midland, Interview II, Credit Call, My Virginian, Flush Of Diamonds, Scout, Money Ma

"Season" refers to a time of the year, and it’s absolute insanity to have a ‘time of year’ finishing on one day, and starting on the next.

Really dont know where they generate some of their ideas from….
April 16, 2010 at 21:31 #290700The NH season as such never ends in terms of a "season." It’s a year round long sport which just starts again the next day. It won’t make a difference to me whether we start and end it from one calendar year to the next. If RFC wish to make NH Racing take a one month break after the National, then it would make a difference. But they can’t do that as they don’t have control of the fixture list. And they can end NH Racing in their own minds as much they want, but whilst the Punchestown Festival continues in Ireland at the most a few weeks after Aintree, no NH fan is going to have thought of the "season" as being finished. I love how RFC seem to think everything in this sport solely centres around what they intend to do. Another artificial idea which is sure to revolutionise racing.
April 16, 2010 at 22:42 #290719Not forgetting the fact that the point to point season ends at Umberleigh in Devon the week before wimbledon and the Hunterchases end at Cartmel on the May Bank Holiday Monday which is pretty close to the old end of the season dates. RFC are change for changes sake merchants with no imagination at all.
