Here’s the gist of the flyer I received this morning, urging me to attend Eclipse Day.

“The famous Group 1 Coral-Eclipse race is the jewel in our crown and the highlight of one of the finest flat racing days in the country….

The sheer glamour of the race continues to set the tone of the meeting, which also happens to be our annual Ladies Day. This year, the inspirational dancer Camilla Dallerup will judge our Best Dressed Lady Competition, with prizes including a pink Vespa. Our House of Fraser Style Stable will provide complimentary beauty treatments, while music and entertainment heighten the summer party atmosphere.

So come along, throw caution to the wind and indulge in a day of complete luxury! It’s a an absolute must!”[/size:3r8tnpao]

A pink Vespa and complimentary beauty treatments aren’t quite my style, so I have a Modest Alternative Proposal for the Sandown Executive to consider.

Why not arrange a Luxury Public Hanging of your entire Marketing Team, with pink silk ropes and elegant House of Fraser trap doors? And with Camilla Dallerup (who she?) there to pull the trigger, what more sophisticated day out could anyone require? You know you can’t afford them, so why not throw caution to the wind and shed your surplus staff in this fun and innovative summer-garden-party way? Go on! It’s an absolute must!

    A stirred-up nest of

    Vespa crabro

would be my choice of prize

    What is an ‘inspirational dancer’?

In so far as she is one of the dancers on

    Strictly Come Dancing

, the "inspirational" part stems from what the appearace of said show every Saturday night during the autumn months might inspire you to do to avoid it.

I have my trusty supply of Acme needles (eyeball size) ready and waiting once more.

Depressing isn’t it? And the saddest part is that whoever thought this crap up is getting a fat pay packet too!

I’m going along to this one on a work jolly but, rest assured, I will avoid the crap and stick to the racing. Oh, and the main reason I’ll be there is to scope it out for Tingle Creek day!

BTW, didn’t Inspirational Dancer come fifth in a Bumper at Fontwell the other month?

So don't run, just like the others always do
