Here is a question…. If you owned Master Minded who would you book as jockey? I would not be booking ST. I wouldn’t want to risk my horse’s chances just to try and raise the confidence of a jockey. I’d be calling either AP or GLee.
That puts you in the 10% bracket then? thought so!
December 4, 2008 at 20:28 #194334i think racing is a sport that looks after it’s own [injured jockeys fund etc] and care about the wellbeing of everyone involved; horses jockeys and the betting public..that’s why it’s such a great sport to be involved with….

Amen to that and would also add that bookmakers also help make the sport great
December 4, 2008 at 20:42 #194343reckon 90% of the racing public are supporting Sam through this difficult
time,The same ones that voted for John Sergeant
December 4, 2008 at 20:54 #194348Firefox – this whole thread is one big joke and would be better placed in a fans forum for XFACTOR.
December 4, 2008 at 21:01 #194349Firefox,
If this is a serious racing forum, how come you’re here?
December 4, 2008 at 21:07 #194353Hit the nail on the head GW. A lot of people are making the assumption Sam’s confidence is low. When I hear it from him, as opposed to self appointed spokespeople then I will believe it.
People who suggest that Sam is short on confidence are merely finding a way to explain his loss of riding form which is clearly an issue; Why would Sam come out and say it, even if it was true?
Mind you, he looked anything but underconfident steering Venetia’s 25/1 shot into second place just now at Wincanton – the Nicholls mare drifting like a barge, although tissued as 5/1 3rd Fav. And this Nicholls’ local course.
He’s just come second in a hurdle race; hardly an event to base any thinking on. The Nicholls mare is simply a very poor racemare btw and was only put in short because Nicholls is so respected. On form she was an outsider and ran accordingly
The evidence, whilst far from compelling at this stage, of Ditcheat simply being out of form gathers pace the nearer we get to the Tingle Creek.
Worth pointing out that Sam’s last two decantings have been for other yards than Paul Nicholls, so it has absolutely nothing to do with that stable’s form.

Maybe he’s short on confidence in front of the camera!
December 4, 2008 at 21:51 #194369On Monday people were pointing to the Folkestone falls as proof he was "gone in the head". What can his detractors point to after today?
That you have gone in yours
December 4, 2008 at 22:35 #194385"Clivex," puts himself firmly in the 10% camp
Blinkers may need replacing with cheekpieces
"Rory" doesn"t know what camp he"s in!
and "Underscore" still contributes to the best of his ability!December 4, 2008 at 22:37 #194387…and don’t forget Grasshopper "doesn’t give a monkeys"………
December 4, 2008 at 22:48 #194391Nor do i really…its "jocked off, so what?" for me too
December 4, 2008 at 22:55 #194398I think every jockey goes through spells of losing their confidence. Ruby Walsh after some criticism of how he pops the last on Kauto Star, it is possible to see an over cautious attitude at the final fence for a time.
Even the great AP McCoy did not look his confident self after some criticism of some Cheltenham Festival rides a few years back.
Most of what has been said about Sam is not warrented. But just the fact it is there, could have some effect on his riding. Criticism can always effect confidence but am sure, whether there is anything in what’s been said or not, Thomas will be / is as good as ever. potentially one of our best.

Aah Grasshopper,
that is disrespectful to the thread, Master Po will have
words with you, as the great man would have told you before " if a man dwells on the past, then he robs the present! But if a man ignores the past
he may rob the future"! Sam will have learned a lot from the past which will
stand him in good stead for the future!December 5, 2008 at 00:51 #194420Really good to see Sam get a couple of winners on the board today.
Ok so one was odds on and one was evens but still a winner is a winner and that will take some of the pressure off going into the weekend.
I have always been of the opinion that his confidence was at a low point mainly as he was having a lot of falls and quite a proportion of them were at the last obstacle when still in with contention but now he can go on and put the past few weeks behind him and get back to what he does best.

After some of the posts you’ve made, firefox, I wouldn’t be so quick to criticise others – especially in the manner you have.
December 5, 2008 at 01:16 #194431A 15-page thread about a routine jocking-off……….hard to believe.
