so there we have it, the best horse of the flat season, sea the stars is ducking out of running in the best race of the flat season, the king george.
a year ago the racing post ran a feature on what can be down to bring the king george back to its glorious best. ascot reacted by boosting the prize fund to £1,00000 but sadly it seems mr oxx is scared of the remote chance of sea the stars getting beat.
what else could ascot do? or is it just modern day flat racing for you?
roll on november when the proper racing returnsJuly 14, 2009 at 22:17 #239611On this occassion its purely to give more time between races for Sea The Stars. I can understand that, and with other targets in the autumn, is an understandable decision. It could backfire if we have a wet autumn though. By now we all know Sea The Stars wont run on ground on the soft side…which is more likely in the autumn.
July 14, 2009 at 23:04 #239617How the hell is a very good horse supposed to achieve greatness if it won’t run in the best races?
I do wonder about some of these owners and trainers!
July 15, 2009 at 00:06 #239622Give it time. He’s already ran a couple of classics and an Eclipse.

I look forward to hearing your comments on Kauto Star’s campaign during the "proper" racing season.

Sea the Stars will most likely end up running in 6 top class races, where he will have been at his peak. Kauto Star will probably run in 2 (Gold Cup and King George), or 3 at the very most, in addition to a nothing race at Down Royal.
