I reckon an 8-4 or 9-3 mauling in the singles, leading to a record defeat under the bumbling Harrington.

Home advantage, no visiting support, so many Europeans out of form; the US were absolute certs, and even at 4/7 were a value bet.

At least the margin of victory was not as much as Ireland over Britain at Cheltenham! ;-)

At one stage, with so much red on the board, I thought it might be almost as much!

Pleased for Stricker and it obviously meant a lot to him. However, I have always thought winning captains get too much praise and losing captains too much criticism.

Stricker had a stronger, younger team which played better and had a home advantage accentuated by the circumstances.

Feel a bit sorry for Harrington as Europe were always up against it. Some of his decisions can be queried but they did not make five points worth of difference.

However, I agree with Laura Davies’s comments last night. When Europe were 6-2 down after Friday, they really needed to gamble and throw everything at the Saturday foursomes. Instead, they mostly stuck with partnerships which had already lost and had players like Lowry and Fleetwood sitting on the sidelines. By the time Lowry brought a bit of energy to the team, it was 9-3 and already a lost cause.

    Tennis bets for this week

ALENJADRO DAVIDOICH FOKINA to win ATP Sofia open 16/1

Improving player from Spain got B Paire up in opener but can beat him may get Russenovi and Sinner after that to

    MIKAEL YMER 25/1

Got to his 1st final last month and can go one step better here. Has MILLMAN then De Minaur be hard to beat he not worry from facing him

BRANDON NAKASHIMA 22/1 ATP San Diego open

This young American broke through last month with back to back finals lost both of them but proved he good enough has Fognini and then Rublev be tough but not unbeatable if beat these players not fear anyone else

    SEBASTIAN KORDA 25/1

Has Tommy Paul then could get Sonego who not a top seed with Rudd better on clay and while Hurcacz be tired and AUGER ALLISAME also at Laver cup can go far here

    ANASTASIA POTAPOVA 17/2 WTA ASTANA

A wild child on the court a bit of a temper to but got talent MLEDENOVIC in 2nd round be tough with Puntiseva and Konjuh also in draw be tough she good enough to do it

    ALISON VAN ULUTUNCK 8/1

She can carve through this field the 2nd seed git a lot of class in this field not many players to fear

    BIANCA ANDREESCU 9/1 WTA Chicago

Big tournament of the week face a qualifier maybe Kontaveit in round 3 but may get tired after win last week. Either AZARENKA or MUGURUZA maybe but can beat both and Mertens not a scary seed to face in last 4

    SLOANE STEPHENS 50/1

Much better player on American hardcourts got Zidensk then maybe Bencic in round 3 and could beat here and yes RYBAKINA been in better form but Sloane not under estimated in America
