Tranquil Sea is my biggest festival AP winner and today just confirmed my impression that he is a good thing.

February 28, 2010 at 20:12 #279743Poquelin, Tranquil Sea and Barbers Shop: equal to even money if you back all 3.
Festival chase form: Poquelin 8/18 to Oh Crick, Tranquil Sea 6/20 to Chapoturgeon, Barber Shops second to Finger on The Pulse and 7/16 to Kauto Star (ALL RACES HANDICAPS except Barbers Shop in Gold Cup.
VPU, Schindlers Hunt and Planet of Sound: equal to 7/2 if you back all 3.
Festival Chase form: VPU Won Arkle, Champion Chase, second to Masterminded in Champion Chase and second to Imperial Commander in Ryanair, Schinlers Hunt third to Imperial Commander in Ryanair and fourth to Masterminded in Champion Chase, Planet of Sound third to Forpadydeplasterer in Arkle (ALL RACES GRADE 1)
When you also look at official ratings the second group have a higher average rating and overall the horses that are the first three in the betting are very poor value indeed.
February 28, 2010 at 20:57 #279755Voy Por Ustedes at 12/1 is almost the e/w bet of the festival!
Celestial Halo at 16/1 is still the e/w steal!February 28, 2010 at 22:45 #279779Poquelin, Tranquil Sea and Barbers Shop: equal to even money if you back all 3.

VPU has essentially gone
SH is a 10yo who’s forgotten how to win
Planet Of Sound can’t jump.Bit of a problem they have!

Very impressive win by Tranquil Sea there, will take all the beating in the Ryanair.
Snowy Morning is my number 1 National fancy,so to get within 3l of Tranquil Sea over 2m1f would concern me if i was a Tranquil supporter!
Dream on, TAPK.
Snowy Morning was never in the same race and ran on through beaten horses. Tranquil Sea absolutely laughed at the lot of ’em.
3l indeed,February 28, 2010 at 23:35 #279787Tranquil Sea is my biggest festival AP winner and today just confirmed my impression that he is a good thing.

Gord, you crack on with your VPU bet but you may as well back him place only because he will not win. I’m not sure if you’re watching the same horse as me but he has been a shadow of himself in the jumping department this year and that was always his biggest asset.
Tranquil Sea looks quicker than anything in the field and gets 2 and a half in heavy ground so there are no stamina doubts. He should have been favourite before today let alone after.
I backed him in the Jewson last year and he lost it on the way down and his jumping was not great throughout. He still finished sixth though and has improved greatly this year, particularly his jumping.

3l indeed,Nope,it wasn"t a dream reet,it was defineately just 3 lengths!
Tranquil Sea will meet much tougher opposition in a fortnight!March 1, 2010 at 17:26 #279890Tranquil Sea is my biggest festival AP winner and today just confirmed my impression that he is a good thing.

If Voy Por gets his ground, Run for cover Aragorn!
March 1, 2010 at 17:56 #279901Voy Por can snatch 3rd maybe. Doubt it mind.
Tranquil Sea looked in good heart, but what a huge over-reaction there’s been to him beating a 141-horse and a grand national horse.
The mind boggles!
March 1, 2010 at 18:07 #279902I would have Poquelin over Tranquil Sea on the basis he would find more off the bridle but both could be in trouble if the ground doesn’t dry up.

Tranquil Sea hardly needs good ground, does he?

You think he is better horse on softer ground? He definitely does not have a soft ground action and I see him as having more speed than stamina. If it came down to a battle on soft ground I think he would struggle.
March 1, 2010 at 18:50 #279915Without doubt Tranquil Sea handles soft ground, he hacked up in the Paddy Power on soft ground over 2m5f. Don’t really see how the going will make much difference to his chances tbh.

If you take into account the ease of his victory, the inadequate trip, the ground being against him, the 2 month absence plus his trainer making clear he’d improve for the outing, then it’s maybe not an over-reaction at all, BB.
March 1, 2010 at 19:16 #279923lol, the jock said he did no more than expected, albeit he did it nicely.
They were pleased with the prep, and rightly so. Hardly a form-revealing race though

Have it your own way, BB – I see nothing in the RyanAir that would’ve done the same, in similar circumstances.
