The bookies reacted by cutting him for the Gold Cup……I doubt if Jonjo has the remotest intention off running him Gold Cup ffs but NTD might run Imperial Commander in it now.

Wouldn’t take 50/1 about Aleberta’s to be placed in a Gold Cup but the Ryanair? I’ll take 20’s if any bookie is daft enough to offer

Reckon I’ll be getting on the 16-1 William Hill are offering about Planet Of Sound, sounded like he lost a fair few lengths due to that mistake and reckon he’d have won today had he jumped right. Could be a very good one in the making perhaps.

Planet of Sound looks an absolute stonking ew bet for Cheltenham.

Have you seen the potential candidates for the race? Bloody Hell! Try and pick the winner from that lot with any confidence. I’ve posted a link below:

Imperial Commander is well-nigh unbeatable around Cheltenham and he’ll be hard to beat, but I couldn’t back him at that price with such opposition.

Geez I could if it was on the day and he turns up. Can’t think of anything that could beat him really.

I think Imperial Commander is clearly decent but dont think he is unbeatable.

Planet Of Sound on pedigree should be better over further, but he wasn’t far away in the arkle, suggesting he has a fair bit of class about him. Today, I never saw the race, and never backed Planet Of Sound, but he has always been one Ive quite liked. I noticed that there was a lot of money for him today which suggested he was expected to win.

I was listening to the commentary where they said he had hit a fence and dropped back winded, he then got himself back together and came back into the race towards the end, and to finish where he did, in the company he was with, that suggests to me he could be very decent indeed. If I remember there was always a fair bit of confidence for him before the arkle last year also. This is one I’m definitely going to stay on the right side of, and think e/w he’s the best bet I’ve seen for cheltenham so far this season.

My personal opinion is that Hobbs should make this one his Gold Cup horse. His pedigree suggests the Gold Cup is more suitable than the Ryanair.

A horse to follow this season.

Tranquil Sea….now that is a horse that could go well considering he has good solid course form.

Maybe Aran Concerto if we can finally see what he has left…his Grade 1 win last year was scintallating. Superb Jumper of a fence but has heels made of glass

Looks like most of us are back to the drawing board for this race.

My suggestion for the New Great White Hope is Jack The Giant . . .

I would be very wary of Backing Tranquil Sea until closer to the time, and he would have to be a decent price at the time (about the same as he is now or bigger).

Tranquil Sea was one of my biggest fancies this year at the cheltenham festival and he had a fairly easy task ahead of him at the weights in the Jewson. What I then saw was that he was given a poor ride and his travelling was not brought into play, and he was beaten by Chapoturgeon, a horse who I dont rate anywhere near as highly as tranquil sea. That was on gd-sft aswell, which Tranquil Sea should love.

As we all know the Ryanair can sometimes throw up a small field, and if it does it may not be in Tranquil Sea’s favour as think he looks like a traveller and wants a decent pace, and if he doesnt get a good ride or the race doesnt pan out that way he is very vulnerable. Likewise if the ground comes up good it will not necessarily play to his travelling strength.

At the prices at the minute Planet Of Sound must be a play. On saturdays evidence he will be much shorter come the time of the Ryanair, I also think he is much more versatile than Tranquil Sea and by recollection, despite his problems in saturdays race he still finished ahead of schindlers hunt and VPU who were placed in last years ryanair (if I remember correctly). Now VPU wasnt 100% IMO and Schindlers Hunt’s performance in last years Ryanair was a stand out performance IMO, but POS was definitely not capable of showing 100% and it looks like improvement will certainly be on the way.

On the subject of the gold cup, Im not too sure yet if they would really want to step him up to 3m2f at cheltenham so soon when he looks to have so much speed about him. It will certainly be interesting to see how his campaign works out, but at the minute this looks the most logical target IMO.

I thought at Ascot there was a really taking trial for this at Ascot on Saturday, but it wasn’t in the graded chase, it was in the 2m Handicap Chase and the horse was Master Medic. This horse has done nothing but improve despite on his 2 starts this season being at 2m which from the way he races is almost certainly inadequate. I remember the day he tanned Atouchbetweenacara at Huntingdon last year despite conceding that rival 12 lb. Considering his effort off 150 at Ascot over too short a trip, he looks a big price in comparison to the single-figure quotes on Tranquil Sea who won the Paddy Power (albeit in a canter) off 2 lb lower. He still has some improvement to find to make it to that level, but the Alner’s clearly rate the horse too by giving him a King George entry.

None of the bookmakers are quoting him but I keep taking what I can at 100+ on betfair. I honestly think 25’s is fair.

Not sure the race will be that strong this year, plenty that might have been preferring this race could well be looking back at the Champion Chase with Master Minded having a bit to prove at present.

I agree with you, DJ – though there has to be a concern about whether the Alner’s will even send him to the Festival. All his starts bar one (Fontwell) have come right-handed.

For me, he was absolutely stuck-on for the Paddy Power off 140, but he didn’t even get an entry. They seem to have an aversion to running him left-handed.

Yep it is a nagging doubt that his best form is right-handed. Hopefully they don’t have an aversion to running at Cheltenham and it was just circumstances that have so far prevented him. According to the stories section on the Post, he was injured and not sparkling last spring and that was why they drew stumps with him, and similarly having run him at Ascot fto this season they didn’t want to turn him out so quickly in the Paddy Power.

Also taken some 180 for the King George, but that doesn’t look anywhere near as appealing a target given his likely opponents.

Paddy Power GC entries were out before the Ascot ones, DJ. I’m not saying that there is anything particularly sinister in that, but they clearly prefered the Ascot option over the Cheltenham one for whatever reason.

Regardless, if your lumping on at 180+, it somewhat offsets the risk a little. Wish I’d fecking thought of it!

Wat about the horse that beat it a Ascot? They are very closely matches on weights.

Or would getting the trip be an issue?

Was very impressed with his jumping on Sat

Fix The Rib is a likeable and progressive horse too, but I’d be very surprised if he didn’t prove best around 2m. Shame the VC is no longer a handicap, but even as a conditions chase, his proven effectiveness there will make him more appealing than a lot of the exposed types that could go there.
