Moving heaven and earth to get Ryan would mean upping sticks and moving to Newmarket.
RM is happy there, with his family etc. and in a good job at Stoute’s. The best option if O’Brien and co want Moore would be to just use him for the major races.
March 31, 2011 at 19:04 #348123He is riding very, very well. Absolutely top drawer and I suspect you’ll see Ballydoyle use him whenever possible.
March 31, 2011 at 19:26 #348127Definitely agreed. No other jockey would have got that anywhere near. He is happy with his family life and has stated that is the most important thing to him, so the only option is to use him in the big races, i.e. Rip Van Winkle in last year’s Sussex Stakes.
March 31, 2011 at 20:06 #348140The explanation that they would use the best avaailable on the day is the most obtuse and crazy answer i have ever heard. Jockeys are booked weeks in advance.

Just my view, but Keiren Fallon is still one of the best pace judges around, and I’d be amazed if there isn’t a role for him with Coolmore somewhere.
Luca allowing, of course, which might be just why they haven’t appointed anyone as number one.April 1, 2011 at 00:01 #348182They have gone through Kinane,Spencer, Fallon and Murtagh. If I were Moore I would be leery of going to that yard.
April 1, 2011 at 08:21 #348216I agree with Irish Stamp that Ryan Moore’s family life is very important to him. There was an “at home” interview with him last year on TV, and it seems he now feels that he has a really good life. I am sure he would be riding for SMS anywhere on a Sunday if required, but SMS does not want a knackered jockey and Ryan Moore wants to enjoy some family time.
As for Coolmore/Ballydoyle borrowing him for big races when SMS doesn’t need him, I cannot believe that the Magnier/O’Brien team would think this to be a strategically smart move. Allowing a member of an “opposition” team to get to know the foibles of your best animals when they will be in competition with them later, isn’t a good move. Coolmore are an important company with huge turnover, dedicated to producing stallions (worth tens of millions of pounds), and need someone experienced and exclusive who can give goood feedback about what each horse does in a racing situation, as well as being a brilliant jockey in a race. They also need to ask themselves if it is helping or hindering their company objectives to be doing whatever it is that makes top rank jockeys unable to live calmly in that job. Olivier Peslier would be good for them, if they could attract him, and keep him.
April 1, 2011 at 10:45 #348250While i understand that Ryan Moore is very dedicated to his family life(good on him in this day and age). Is their a massive problem with him working with SMS and riding the big days for AOB….without being cruel to Stoute he is not producing the same amount of Top class horses bar obviously Workforce and harbinger in a red letter year last year.
Stoute will have his Derby/ his St Leger and his King George runner but i not so sure he has the ammunition to be going for all these Group 1 Races around Europe.
I think Moore and AOB would be perfect together. Moore a very unassuming character and it is well known that the Coolmore team are massive fans of his.
Would SMS hold back Moore from this opportunity….i think their is a accomadation providing the right deal is made.
Mind you i just want it to happen no matter what
April 1, 2011 at 11:20 #348265Seems to me there will be no settlement until Joseph is riding NH and keeping far away from the Ballydoyle barns.
April 8, 2011 at 15:54 #349269Ryan rides on Sunday….hopefully he be over As much as possible
April 8, 2011 at 16:53 #349278Hard to know what Aidan is up to.Only two or three years ago he was telling us after Heffernan won the irish Derby that he was an international level jockey. Now he is not good enough to ride the first string in the trials after doing it for many years. Basically I agree that you use the best and Moore is certainly one of the best. But it seems to me that Aidan has been struggling with the jockey, not the trainer, getting much credit for the success of Ballydoyle.I have been reviewing many of last years races where Murtagh rode short priced horses from Ballydoyle and he finished lengths behind Joseph on the longer priced horses.Someone was misdirecting Murtagh last year. Same thing happened to Kinane the year he quit.Worrying in retrospect.
April 8, 2011 at 17:00 #349280Heff is not a Top Class jockey…he said himself he doesn’t want the job.
COD is a very good jockey but Ryan Moore is the best in Europe without a doubt.
AOB has always mapped the jockey booking based on the horse with regard these 2yr old races. Plus i don’t believe they have much idea who is better than who until they are on the racecourse
April 8, 2011 at 19:01 #349307As someone said I am only pointing out what i read in the paper. Johnny rode the fav.was often beaten by the stable companion.Go figure. I am trying to.

Not much figuring to do. The favourite was favourite because Murtagh was riding it, and it was therefore assumed to be the Ballydoyle Selected: but as has been pointed out, it’s almost impossible to rank your (average to good) 2yo’s on their home work. It’s the racecourse experience which sorts out the pecking order. No suggestion, I think, of any "misdirecting" going on.
April 9, 2011 at 18:23 #349485You may be right Pinza but in the past when Ballydoyle had a fav you could normally depend on it to come home first of the Ballydoyle horses. You could in fact normally expect the Ballydoyle fav. to win!If what you say is true then the fact that Murtagh was riding a horse as a 2yo should mean nothing if the yard does not know which of their horses is the best. Was Murtagh just given the ride by lottery? Was Joseph just lucky to be riding the winner? I am looking for order in the sequence not just luck. Most punters don’t follow a jockey except Lester. But as I say you may be right that they did not know which was best.
April 10, 2011 at 14:59 #349643for Ryan Moore.
This guy is so superior to every other rider in Europe. I thought his ride on Master of Hounds was exceptional as was his ride on other Coolmore horses through the years. I know Moore has a good job at Stoute but surely they could get him over on Sundays to ride and maybe Thurs evenings. I know Champion Jockey is important to him but surely Big races are more important to him now that he has reached a certain level.
Any opinions?
He ain’t very superior today.
Seaney Levey should be recalled at once.
Seriously, I admire Ryan enormously but his rides today have been very curious.
April 10, 2011 at 15:20 #349645Nice ride by R L Moore on Quest For Peace.
Ridden more prominently. Penny drops.
