Ricky’s younger self was different – much calmer I’d say. He got bored on the P&O to Perth – that concerned me but hey he was always a bubbly personality with a few glitches that Ian discovered, but I could have a drink with him – a metre away down the bar.
Biden is 78 and manages to fit his caps in every morning…so the younger Adie should be well able to lift a mike. She may have McCririck syndrome !March 2, 2022 at 18:48 #1585495Jess Stafford to David Loughnane on RTV after the 6.30 at Kempton: “How many horses do you have to go to war with?”
Not the best choice of phrase at the moment, Jess.
March 2, 2022 at 21:38 #1585511Freudian slip perhaps….

Restores a bit of faith in humanity.
Also not sure this would have been quite the same thrashing a couple of weeks ago:
March 3, 2022 at 08:20 #1585560‘Anyone still want the bbc defunded?’
It has started shortwave transmissions to Ukraine to help keep people up to date with events. Quite a few Russians also turning to it apparently.
Think about that next time you pay your licence fee.
March 3, 2022 at 09:37 #1585562Kate Adie is on Radio 4 – she presents “From Our Own Correspondent” 11:30 on a Saturday.
In this horrible situation this is where the “BBC” excel – especially the “BBC World Service”
– “It is the world’s largest external broadcaster in terms of reception area, language selection and audience reach”.March 3, 2022 at 09:58 #1585563Agree entirely but I’m not sure the Ukrainians would enjoy hearing jeremy Bowen parroting the putin line
He’s supposedly a reporter but offers nothing except his anti west slant on everything
BBC shouldn’t be using “reporters” to offer political stances as facts
March 3, 2022 at 10:17 #1585564Thanks for that Matron,I knew she was writing books and it’s good to hear she’s involved still on reporting on the radio. I just wonder if she misses the atmosphere of being in the front line. She’s had a remarkable life.
March 3, 2022 at 10:39 #1585565Bowen is not a favourite of mine either – as well as Hugh Edwards.
March 3, 2022 at 15:26 #1585577NEW: Russia's intelligence agency, the Federal Security Service, has drafted plans for public executions in #Ukraine after cities are captured, per a European intelligence official

This is a Bloomberg reporter. So it’s definitely reliable
Also macron had a call with him today where he confirmed that they are taking the whole of Ukraine.. I suspect the hard left tankies and trump fans will be cheering that on but of course he’s not going to stop there is he?
I’m the least pessimistic person but I seriously believe that unless he’s deposed quickly we are heading for a global war. almost certain
Also fiona hill who is a English Russian expect who’s been chief advisor to the White House and hugely respected seriously believes we must not rule out first strike nuclear attack from Putin. In fact she believes it’s likely
She clearly loathes trump and casts a degree of blame on his stupidity (Trumps intelligence is subnormal of course ) and she’s worked for him and the democrats. This is a very important voice
Don’t read this if you want to sleep tonight

John Bolton isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but no one would ever claim he doesn’t know his stuff
Matron. Apparently he’s out their now and no doubt taking orders from the Kremlin. But also fergal Keane is in the country too and word is that both Ukrainian and Russian forces as well as the whole civilian population are deserting the country
March 3, 2022 at 19:52 #1585607Put on sky news last night and saw my old pal Kevin Maguire talking about this crisis, played 10 years of rugby with his son, he’s a top man!
March 3, 2022 at 22:15 #1585643Nice to see peace breaking out.
…At least on TRF.Do agree with BigG, if there is one country that could put real pressure on Putin it is China.
There is no other direction he can look now for any kind of support bar China… and so China now has him by the short and curlies. Also: Yes the Wolves changing silks to Ukraine is a bit much – does seem as though sometimes people do stuff more to make themselves feel better than Ukraine. However, there is a lot of seemingly meaningless things we can do in this country that could add up. Along with what other countries do, getting back to the people of Russia. More unpopular normal Russians feel, the more likely they are to voice their discontent too…
And it might matter more to Putin than some think. We know image is important to Putin. Likes people to think of him as physically strong. Physical image so important experts believe he’s been under the knife and takes steroids. So his image as a person may also matter more than he likes to show.
Value Is EverythingMarch 3, 2022 at 22:31 #1585651I’m also glad to see peace break out here on TRF.
There are plenty of interesting genuine differences of opinion to debate without twisting each other’s words or being offensive or disparaging.
It would be nice to think that Russia becoming a pariah State both socially and economically might make China think twice about a few things.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 3, 2022 at 23:18 #1585659Healthy debate is good. Of course there will be differences of opinion but we are all (as far as I am aware) on the same side here.
Please spare a few quid or donate some goods if you can too. The Polish shops around my way are all doing collections which they can load into their delivery vans that otherwise go back empty.
I would donate my Cheltenham profits but Ukraine would end up owing me
March 4, 2022 at 01:15 #1585662Have to pinch myself every day that this is still happening, praying the russians take putin out for their own good, surely his insiders will (if they don’t already) see him as a liability to the country now. Russia has such vast resources, landmass and population that they just need a stable leader to be successful and surely the other ‘higher-ups’ in Russia realise this. The current and future negative consequences FAR outweigh the possible benefits of this whole situation. Putin may be able to manipulate and lie to the average russian citizen who’s stuck watching state propaganda but those around Putin are surely too shrewd to let their ship sink at the behest of their egotistical, backwards-thinking, stuck in the past psycho of a leader.
I hope, I really do hope the Russians don’t allow this maniac to continue, if not you’ll probably be reading my name on a memorial in years to come. Either way it’s been a great ride and I love you all
