Argentina are currently 38 on Betfair to win the Rugby World Cup. While I will concede that this price is probably not great in terms of actually winning the thing, they should top Group D by beating Ireland on Sunday night where either Scotland or Italy await them in the quarter-final, which they should win no problem At the semi-final stage you should be able to lay the bet off for a free bet or small profit.
September 27, 2007 at 21:06 #116794Although I am biased – if Scotland play to their potential in the Q-Final I wouldn’t assume for one second that Argentina will beat them.
September 28, 2007 at 08:20 #116866Scotland are no bankers to beat Italy IMO. I can’t see them beating Argentina. I think the Argies would give even Australia or South Africa a decent game. Their pack is phenomenal and they are the only side who haven’t conceded a try yet.
September 29, 2007 at 09:24 #117077Good shout David regarding Argentina.
It will be interesting to see how they cope tomorrow and I will be watching them very closely.
I think Ireland need to beat them impressively, scoring enough tries to get the bonus point, in order to climb above them. I know this is not going to happen, but it will be very interesting to see if the Argies get complacent and sloppy knowing that they have one foot in the QF’s

September 29, 2007 at 09:33 #117079The Argies need to at least one more point to ensure they top this group because whoever finishes second in this Group plays the All-Blacks in the Quarter-Final

Ouch.
If it goes as you say, the Argies are likely to play South Africa in the Semi Final, and if SA play anythng like they did against Tonga then a win wouldn’t be out of the question in that game either.
Though as you can probably tell, i’m not that clued up on Rugby lol.

September 30, 2007 at 17:51 #117270Good call David,
Good win for Argentina today and probably trading a lot less (though I haven’t checked) than what you advised. Well done.

September 30, 2007 at 18:40 #117284Come on Scotland!
October 1, 2007 at 08:36 #117353They’re doing heaps better than England and Wales
October 1, 2007 at 11:28 #117382Well England are still there, and the way Australia have been playing, England are not without a chance of upsetting the Aussies.
Argentina can now be layed at 24 now which would give a free bet of 12 points or hedged to give a guaranteed profit of 0.36 pts (Woo Hoo) but I would be inclined to let this ride for the next game and see what the odds are like for the semi-final (yes cormack I know, IF they make it)
October 1, 2007 at 11:56 #117384I think the Aussies will beat England – but not if they take them on up front. They have the ideal midfield runner in Stirling Mortlock to take on the English defence. His shoulder has come good and he’ll be fit as.
Mind you he’s not saying it’s going to be easy; "They’ve got a great set-piece and their forward pack is very dominating."The thought of beating England tends to make them a little cheery too and I think they will be full of running

Mind you they aren’t anywhere near as good as they were in the days of John Eales (well I don’t think so).
I never know who to cheer for
October 4, 2007 at 21:26 #117998D-Day for Scotland and the Argentinians looms. I hope we give them a game and if we can contain their pack and force a few pens we may have a decent shout.
England will be doing well to get within 15 points of the Aussies IMO.
October 6, 2007 at 14:43 #118225Wow,
Thought England would get hammered, proud to say I was wrong

October 6, 2007 at 14:48 #118228England move into the last four after defeating Australia 12-10 in the first quarter-final of the IRB Rugby World Cup at Stade Velodrome in Marseille.

So Mike did they take them on up front?
I haven’t seen the game we have to pay for a special channel here and I didn’t – cheapskate that I am
October 6, 2007 at 14:49 #118229Yeah – England really outbattled the Ozzies today. Didn’t have a bet before the match but England were 5/4 just before Wilkinson kicked England into the lead and they never went odds-on until Mortlock missed his kick and were still 1.20 with the match going into injury time.
It would be great to see another upset tonight!
October 6, 2007 at 14:57 #118232You want NZ or France to win DB?
Our lot (3 of them Kiwis) have just arrived in England for the match. They got there this morning
Well Wales that is
October 6, 2007 at 21:05 #118266What a match! Riveting stuff from start to finish. €91,500 matched on NZ at 1.02 on Betfair.
Roll on the Pumas! They are now 9.6 to lay, but I’m still hanging on.
COME ON FIJI!
