And now Nicholls bravely criticises a 7lb claimer. The same Nicholls who said Oisin Murphy did nothing wrong on a short priced favourite at Newcastle on All Weather Finals Day and shouted down Oli Bell when he correctly suggested the horse had been too far back and given too much to do.
Funny how these pundits all of a sudden become brave and outspoken when it is either a claimer or a foreign jockey at fault.
January 7, 2026 at 18:01 #1749738Oli Bell and Tom Stanley’s Wednesday night double act is now being branded as “Stan and Oli”. My sides are splitting.
The promotion of Josh Stacey continues as well.
January 7, 2026 at 20:31 #1749752Are you sure you wouldn’t be better off just cancelling your subs CAS?? You seemingly detest just about everything about the channel😅
I agree with you about Mcnae’s tedious nonsense but Tom Stanley, Tom Bull are no harm to anyone. And all of their coverage is far more enjoyably than sky sports adverts.
January 7, 2026 at 21:55 #1749762From what I saw of the programme, it wasn’t that bad tonight. But I do believe they wasted far too much time on how racing can increase its appeal etc. My guess is RTV’s subscription base is mostly middle aged to elderly and are not particularly interested in TikTok etc.
January 8, 2026 at 17:35 #1749816And they still have those God awful jockey silks taking up much of the screen during each race which started unannounced in December.
Do they honestly believe this adds anything at all to the viewing spectacle?
January 13, 2026 at 12:35 #1750329The standard definition channel has finally been switched off. I still couldn’t get a picture on the HD channel but some jiggling around with the Sky box settings has restored it in all its glory.
What a relief! I thought I was going to miss the latest installment of the Stan and Oli show on Wednesday. And the prospect of living without McNae and his RaceIQ data was too much to handle!
January 15, 2026 at 16:52 #1750541How many more times does RTV have to show The Moscow Flyer Story? Do Jessica Harrington and Barry Geraghty have shares in the channel?
January 22, 2026 at 15:59 #1751264Well done Racing TV, you managed to totally ruin the climax of the Thyestes Chase by going split screen with the start of a micky mouse 0-100 hurdle over 3 miles, worth 3 grand to the winner at Wetherby.
January 22, 2026 at 17:45 #1751281Was there nobody at Wetherby with a brain cell that could have held their race for 2 minutes? Or is it because they didn’t get a phone call from the BHA who didn’t think of it either?
January 22, 2026 at 22:21 #1751299When they go split screen those deeply annoying & intrusive jockey silks graphics drop off the screen.
Why do they bother with them? They are often showing the wrong order. Some races they appear part way through a race, sometimes not at all. They only show 10 of the runners so if the field is bigger than that it just ignores any horse outside the top 10.
Can anyone say it adds anything in the slightest to the viewing experience? How did we manage before?
January 23, 2026 at 08:54 #1751313The split screen was ridiculous but I don’t have much sympathy for the Irish racing authorities.
There have been plenty of occasions when the main race of the day in Britain has been in progress, only to end up on a split screen because an unimportant Irish race has commenced.
Most notoriously when the Derby itself had to be broadcast by RTV on a split screen with an ultra important fillies maiden from Listowel, which some genius decided to start at exactly the same time instead of waiting two minutes.
January 23, 2026 at 22:21 #1751386Fair to say those on-screen graphics are having “teething troubles”.
The 1.35 Warwick running order graphics had the wrong colours for No.3 and the order froze after 15 seconds, so were wrong for almost the entire race (if anyone was taking notice).
I guess RTV felt they had to copy SSR and introduce them, but offer no benefit for the vast majority of viewers. If we have to suffer this additional annoyance, RTV should look at moving that whole row of graphics at the bottom of the screen down one line.
It just re-inforces my view that broadcasters seem to have lost the plot when it comes to how they present live racing to the viewers. They seem happy to clutter up the screen and obscure the race itself, but can’t bring themselves to provide a full screen graphic for the result and SP/Tote returns, when we would be missing nothing for a few seconds.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
January 24, 2026 at 09:17 #1751489Maybe Stan & Olly next Wednesday evening can tell viewers the benefit of them having the silk graphics cluttering up the screen for no good reason. Might be worth asking them the question to see what they come up with.
You’ve got to laugh at that laughable advert done by Ruby Walsh telling us how great Racing TV is. Wonder how many takes Ruby took to do that and how much he got.
But remember all profits go back to racing.January 24, 2026 at 09:29 #1751496“But remember all profits go back to racing.”
With a mere 5 presenters on duty on Wednesday night.
Not sure why Josh had to be there just to read out a few emails or why Anthony Dunkley at Kempton needed Ella McNeill there as his sidekick. McNeill being the daughter of a prominent owner and manager of Chelsea Thoroughbreds.
I am not picking on her because she is by no means the only one. But she is another example of someone in the racing media doing multiple jobs in racing.
It is a cosy club – and you’re not in it.
January 24, 2026 at 11:30 #1751517How long before ITV join the screen junk club with jockey silks being shown in-running?
I would expect it of Sky Racing and at least they only show part of the jockeys silks in smaller version and lower on the screen but Racing TV’s version are so in your face.
I wonder what the presenters and analysts see their end?
Really hope they get rid for the Festival’s but very unlikely as they never like to admit they get anything wrong.
January 24, 2026 at 12:32 #1751536I cancelled my subscription months ago. The amount of rubbish they spout these days, with RaceIQ and other drivel, was driving me nuts. And, as CAS rightly points out, the number of presenters they have is ridiculous.
You can watch pretty much any race live on the Racing Post website and/or your bookmaker’s website, anyway. And Racing TV usually post their only interesting features (Luck On Sunday, This Racing Life) on YouTube, anyway.
January 25, 2026 at 06:16 #1751785I am sure that not so long ago the Wednesday night fixtures at Kempton were covered by a team of two people, usually McNae and Willoughby in the studio. There was no one on track and McNae did not need someone to read the emails out for him.
Maybe having someone on track is better because it means interviews can be done. But given most of the interviews are the usual bland stuff, I am not sure it is that important. In any case, five people to cover an all weather evening fixture of no great consequence is clearly over the top.
I do find it odd how a subscription based channel puts a lot of its prime content on YouTube for free. That is where I often watch “Road To Cheltenham” and the “Luck On Sunday” interviews.
