Geez you pair ‘Stilvi and JJM’ cant see the future Gold cup horse this fellow is,if thats the case and a ‘Feltham’ entry to boot suggests to this judge that
Saphir du Rheu
will be RSA bound.14/1 still available if you’re quick lads.Forget about taking 8/1 for the JLT.
December 9, 2014 at 09:11 #497937Nicholls reaction following the win was along the lines of the horse has plenty of speed so there was no rush to step him up in trip? I haven’t got the stats in front of me but I suspect the Feltham isn’t the greatest guide to the RSA. The two courses are pretty much chalk and cheese but at least the right-handed track should suit.
December 9, 2014 at 10:49 #497950The Feltham is a terrible guide for the RSA – Dynaste, Cue Card, Long Run, Annacotty and Joe Lively all previous winners in the last ten or so years. All were turned over, or didn’t run in the RSA. However, Bob’s Worth was beaten in the race and won the RSA.
Impressive as Saphir was, the stats would be against him.
December 20, 2014 at 15:22 #499066After today’s win, I think The Young Master could have a chance. Why not? (Possibly because he could well go for one of the handicaps)

So don't run, just like the others always do
December 20, 2014 at 15:31 #499068Getting a stone from Houblon Des Obeaux and only beating him by a couple of lengths is probably some way short of RSA form in what looks like a good year for staying novices.
His excellent jumping and strong stamina might get him the mix for a place or a respectable midfield effort though.

Gentleman and Ladies when TAPK fancies one its worth listening so grab all the 12/1 about
Saphir du rheu
for the RSA because today will prove we’ve got the 2016 Gold cup winner running for us today in the Feltham….He’s a very fast learner this fellow so his mark goes up accordingly and thats what RSA horses need,he’s better than a JLT sort. Will be interested in Pauls comments today.
December 29, 2014 at 22:07 #499900Surely after today Don Poli must be RSA bound and Valseur Lido heading towards the JLT? I would guess Very Wood may be heading for the 4 miler
January 15, 2015 at 11:15 #501549Sadly Andy Stewart is sending Saphir du Reu to the world hurdle after falling 2 out if 3 times over fences…
January 15, 2015 at 11:24 #501550His jumps jumping has been iffy.
Also, he ran so well last year over hurdles he could easily be in the mix. It worked for Big Bucks.
February 4, 2015 at 18:26 #504101Well….my big fancy for this race now goes for the Denman Chase on Saturday instead of the Novice events Kings Palace holds entries for, so not sure what to think….?
Absolutely love Coneygree…think he’s my favourite horse in training at the moment…love the way he races….was gutted when he was off for so long and literally counted the days down to seeing him jump those bigger obstacles, as he was always an exciting chaser in the making….
He’s done everything asked in his two starts over fences…jumping brilliantly and just galloping on relentlessly….I thought there was every chance he may have ‘bounced’ last time in the Feltham, backing up so soon after that long lay off….was the exact opposite though as he put in a tremendous performance in that race and improved again…
Nico spoke very highly after aswell, which bodes well, especially considering the quality of animal he’s sat and worked on at Seven Barrows….
I know Kempton is totally different to Cheltenham, but this fella has already shown a liking for Cheltenham and don’t see any reason why he won’t relish getting out there, jumping for fun and staying on up that hill…..I took the 16’s available immediately after that Feltham win as it was impressive, and at the time thought a few at the head of the market may not go the RSA route….
I’m now a little concerned though now that if he steps up again and wins at Newbury on Saturday they may be real tempted to have a crack at the Gold Cup….really looking forward to Saturday anyway to see how he goes…
February 4, 2015 at 20:45 #504134Feltham winners have a diabolical record in the RSA.
February 4, 2015 at 23:19 #504155Yes they have of late….really love this fella though and if he does take his chance….by the law of averages a Feltham winner must be due to win the RSA!!
Completely different tests, as has already been established….this lad is so uncomplicated though it matters not to me…he’s proved he goes at Cheltenham in the past so that will do for me…
February 5, 2015 at 10:29 #504172It’s a bit of an anomaly in this case though Zam, coney had virtually nothing to beat after the departure or no show of most of his rivals. I don’t think he was obliged to pull up between the last two simply to enhance his rsa claims.
February 5, 2015 at 10:53 #504173Horses that have been beaten in the Feltham have won the RSA, which goes to prove how stats can be misleading.
February 7, 2015 at 14:36 #504455Whhat a performance from a novice….machine is that…..hope and pray they go RSA….got my doubts though now!
February 7, 2015 at 17:42 #504533I wasn’t impressed by the Feltham win, as the race seemed to fall apart, but that was really very good. I hope the owners aren’t tempted by the Gold Cup, tho, better novices than Coneygree have met disaster there
February 7, 2015 at 21:18 #504563RIP any ante-post bets on King’s Palace for Cheltenham. He was one of the finest jumpers of a hurdle as a novice I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, he’s cursed with a stiff back by the look of him – can’t bend it properly and will leave his hind legs in too many at the Festival
