With the plan being the gold cup for First Lieutenaint in 2013 i don’t think he go for RSA as trainer not keen on the race. But i feel the owner will still win race and my bet is

    SIR DES CHAMPS 20/1

He flew like Pegasus to win at festival and he better over fences and 20/1 is a good price on him.Any thoughts on him and the race to.

Seems a decent shout at this early stage Darren, if he makes it there, would be of serious interest, given his performance in March.

The one I’m keeping an eye on is Call The Police. Really took to him last year, and think he looked a proper chasing type. I’ve no idea if the plan is even to go chasing, let alone go for something like this. I would have to forgive him 2 very poor runs at the end of last season, including at the Festival, but I’ll be watching with interest anyway.

Hidden Cyclone also interest me, looking forward to his first run, to see if he can back up the trainers high hopes.

I have taken the 50/1 on offer for Sonofvic. Didn’t make Cheltenham this year as he was not quite mature enough. However apart from falling on his debut in points he would still be unbeaten. He is a full brother to the yard’s Aiteenthirtythree and he was a much better hurdler than his brother. Hopefully he can make this transition over fences and I am hopeful of a decent run even at this early stage.

I too have backed Sonofvic. I notice the biggest price available is now 33/1 but if he continues to progress the price has the ability to shorten significantly with him being a chaser trained by Paul Nicholls.

Rigour Back Bob ran the other day over hurdles VTC, was well beaten in the end but he always is first run back so plenty of time yet.

Only Thousand Stars really in the staying hurdling division in Ireland so imagine they might go that route with him again, he ran well at Cheltenham in March.

Hidden Cyclone is crying out for 3 miles and for fences; one to follow all year, could end up at the RSA

Yeah Irish, it was his run at Cheltenham that really impressed me, he didn’t have much luck that day at all. If they did keep him over hurdles, I couldn’t really argue with that. Wherever he goes, I’m sure I’ll have an interest in him.

Grand Crus is massive at 8/1 – get on now prior to him hacking up on Friday, he will half in price.

Only dangers looks like bobs Worth. Done him as insurance at 10s!

Plenty of dangers JJM, namely Sir Des Champs and First Lieutenant imo. Anyone know of plans for Sir Des Champs?

This race is without doubt one of the more interesting races this season BUT not one for ante post purposes as there are far too many IFs and WILL HE or WONT HE! For me it is one to follow the prep races and make a decision later in time!

Sivianaco Conti looks a nice sort though

Hard to imagine a horse of Big Bucks calibre springing up and beating him over fences if they choose to go for the RSA. Early doors but he looked an even better chaser than he did a hurdler.

Seemed to thrive. Only danger is himself. Can not see a horse defeating him if goes down the RSA route. No need to go Gold Cup route, leave Long Run, take him on in 18 months!

Always nice to know what people have done when pointing horses in a certain direction – are you on Grands Crus for RSA and Long Run for the Gold Cup?

Why he was impressive there is still a long way to go to march.
I hope Mullins gets Sir Des Champs for RSA but got a nagging feeling they go for 2m5 race instead.Which leaves us with

    FIRST LIEUTENAINT 12/1

If trainer in the end does send him to RSA i think he win it this lad will improve even more at 3m and is a very tough horse as well
    12/1 a nice price to.

Got on Grand Crus in April fella, way ahead of you! Quito De La Roque for the Gold Cup, Long Run far too short for me, and opposed him foolishly since he flopped for me in RSA, shall continue to oppose until I recoup, could make for a long wait mind! :?

There is sometimes something to be said for a cautious approach. What were the generous bookies offering in April?
