After great racing this week at York we have a great card on Sunday at the Curragh on Sunday.
Epsom Derby runner up USAR up against 6 rivals over 10F.
Second favourite surprisingly is last years Champion Stakes winner Fascinating Rock (@2-1) giving 6 lbs to USAR.
The first time the Derby form will be tested against the older generations.
I feel Facinating Rock is a specialist 10F horse who is still improving, while USAR should improve from the Derby having only had 3 runs, but possibly 12F is going to be his best trip.
I wont be having a bet but it should be very informative for the big upcoming Autumn races.
August 21, 2016 at 00:09 #1260763Here’s hoping the ‘Ranger’ bounces back with a bang to set up the re-match we all want to see with Harzand either in the Irish Champion or at Chantilly. Trip fine, ground no issue and class assured and in receipt of 6 pounds from Fascinating Rock returning from his own 91 day break this seems like the perfect opportunity for the Derby runner-up to kick start his Autumn campaign in style. However; the Ranger hasn’t been setting the world alight in his homework by all accounts and it’s taken on trust that O’Brien has him wound up for a clash with the Champion Stakes hero who was least seen demolishing Found by 4 lengths over course and distance. Therefore, even the 11/10 Paddy Power are offering about the favourite makes little appeal but then neither does 2/1 about Fascinating Rock off the back of a 91 day lay-off. Dermot Weld’s gallant 5 year old’s last two re-appearances from similar breaks have seen him finish 3rd in a Group 3 and 5th in a Listed event at Windsor. It’s interesting Mr Bolger persists at this sort of level with Moonlight Magic off the back of two lacklustre displays and perhaps the drop in trip is well called for although even his best from should see him fall short. Success Days would make some appeal at 20/1 should the ground deteriorate further and Meneen seems a little out of depth having been criminally punished by the handicapper for his win last time. Endless Drama is being nibbled at in the market and is now as short as 5s but still held at 13/2 by Bet365 & BetVictor. Mr Lyon’s giant is coming in off the back of an easy confidence boosting win and the step up in trip is overdue. A return to the Curragh for the first time since finishing second to Gleneagles in last year’s Irish 2000 Guineas means that should the top two fluff their comebacks then Endless Drama could well find himself in the winners enclosure for the first time at Group level.
Selection:
Enldess Drama 1pt win @ 13/2August 21, 2016 at 11:43 #1260797I’ll be interested in USAR’s finishing effort after making heavy weather of it at Chester then, to my eye, seeming to duck in behind Harzand at Epsom. He’s well entitled to the benefit of the doubt given Epsom’s vagaries and his inexperience, but I’d like to see him put a race properly to bed before trusting him with cash.
Maneen’s entry makes me wonder how much improvement he’s shown at home after winning a middling handicap last time. He must have come on quite a bit for Weld to throw him in here when place money is paltry. I’ll have a small bet at 50s.
August 21, 2016 at 15:05 #1260823Success Days having been 20/1 last night is now as short as 8s and generally 9/1.
August 22, 2016 at 00:28 #1260871Derby runner up pumped in a Group 3 but all seems well with punters and trainer alike.
Aidan is happy and said the horse will be “Grand”
Beaten at Evens favourite by a bunch that don’t excite me but nobody seems concerned.
Oh well, he’s not for me going forward.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
