My favourite race of the meeting, and I love to try and crack it……

He’s got other options next week, but I’m still going with Protected Guest here. Happy to forgive his run at the weekend, and I think on his Yarmouth win last year, he might be better than 99. The other entry is an issue, and I’ll bet him if he does go for The Copper Horse, but I’m hoping that this is the plan.
Goes without saying that there are loads more, and I do like Ebury as well, but for now, I’ll stick with just the one. It’ll no doubt be three of them on the day.
Protected Guest 40’s
June 15, 2020 at 16:26 #1490779I agree Bobby, it’s a cracker of a race and one that you could make a case for
just about the entire field. The one that I’ve settled on is Dark Vision at 16/1.
He ran up a treble on his 1st 3 runs back in 2018, and was lumbered with a mark of 113.
He’s never managed to get his nose in front in his subsequent 13 (unlucky for some) runs,
but he’s dropped to a mark of 100 and looked to be a winner last time out until a lung
bursting late run from Sir Busker who did him on the line. Mark Johnston’s stable is in
fine fettle at the moment and William Buick is on fire with 8 wins in the past week. I
think he has a great shout.June 15, 2020 at 17:56 #1490795My favourite race of the meeting too VTC. I am on for the hat trick after finding the last two winners.
I have not had a proper look yet but I will certainly be backing Bell Rock. I fancied him but did not back him at Newmarket last time. He looked like winning nothing a furlong out but I was impressed with how we powered home and maybe won a shade cosily.
I will look for something at a bigger price as well, especially as some of the firms are certain to go extra places.
June 16, 2020 at 00:21 #1490828Yeah, always a highlight Cork.
Far and away my best race for betting too, but a bit strange this year, as nothing really jumping out.
Already lost out on Protected Guest, but there was always other options for him, so not a disaster, as I didn’t go mad on that basis.
Will be a fraction of my normal stakes on the race this year, and I will stick with last year’s winner Afaak at 16’s. Fallon takes a handy 3 off, and that could be vital.
Might take Montatham or Kynren as a saver, but I’ll wait just now.
Afaak 16’s
June 16, 2020 at 06:30 #1490835Agree with you about Afaak, VTC. I think he will be my second bet here.
Last year he had the first time headgear angle to help. This year young Fallon’s claim means he can run off the same mark.
As you say, a good claimer can be worth their weight in gold in these big handicaps and there is none better than Fallon right now.
June 16, 2020 at 18:08 #1490972Good luck with him Cork.
I’m really happy to leave it with him, but it is The Hunt Cup, so I’ve got to have another.
I’ll give old Kynren a Chance here, regular in these, but I’m pretty sure it’s the first time I’ve bet him. I’ll wait and see if I can beat 14’s.
All about Afaak though.
Afaak 16’s
KynrenJune 16, 2020 at 21:22 #1490985My ratings give the following top three:
Wargrave – ‘warmed up’ for this with a 10 f win on the snow in St Moritz. I suspect he comes out top becasue ratings from his Irish form are out of kilter with UK figures. But you never know!
Afaak – would need a bit more rain, but if it comes up soft would be well in mix.
Fox Premier – Dropped back in trip which doesn’t encourage.AFAAK looks most likely of the three.
June 16, 2020 at 21:37 #1490990This looks like being a very strong renewal.
Dark Vision is my win selection at 16-1, and my ew up to 7 Places is Beatboxer, who is around 40-1.
June 17, 2020 at 15:38 #1491095Qaysar, what’s the story and wargrave all e/w for me 7 places
June 17, 2020 at 15:47 #1491097Well done Kris and Graham
