These 2 old friends have been living together since retirement. Sadly age caught up with them (26 and 24) and their devastated owner decided it was time to let them go. Not superstars but clearly much loved and cared for to the end. R.I.P. both.
July 8, 2024 at 23:39 #1701315Glad to see Riyadh get a long retirement , remember him from back in days kept eye on his family . A lot trained by Paul Cole . Riyadh ran novice chase Sedgefield into York a week later last two races , that typifies the versatility of them . His half brother Yorkshire was killed in Chepstow Hurdle sadly but his form well worth a look . Raced in England, Wales , Germany , France , Czech Republic and 5th in Melbourne Cup . Hurdle , Chases , Flat he done it all .
Always liked Paul Coles horses back in day , most big strong tough .
Ibn Bey was my all time favourite Paul Cole horse , was at Lingfield on a great summer evening years ago when he won a 3 runner race , he went everywhere that horse . Good days .July 9, 2024 at 00:50 #1701320I remember Riyadh and have seen him win at Newmarket a long time back. He only won 4 races in his whole career but was one of those horses who always caught your eye when he was running. I don’t know much about Dr Sharp but it was lovely to read that they were both good friends and that both had a long and happy retirement.
Sad to hear that they are gone but would guess they are now kicking their heels up together free of pain.
RIP Riyadh & Dr Sharp
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 9, 2024 at 05:09 #1701321I see that Riyadh ran eleven times, between March and October, as a three year old. Some would consider that abusive these days! He also ran 29 times without success after his last victory, in the Cesarewitch. He was one of those unremarkable foot soldiers who receive scant recognition but keep the sport ticking over. I’m pleased that he had a long and (hopefully) happy retirement.
