I half-remember the Even Sail incident, apracing. Was it a three horse race, with the favourite pulled up before the first fence? I have a feeling the jockey in question went to the USA soon after and didn’t return.

It took me a while to remember this trainer and I never realised that he trained horses over the jumps and that he was so good at it. I remember him most for his flat achievements with 2yo’s which he was brilliant at as mentioned by Maxilon. Nearly all his first time out 2yo runners would start favorite ( often odds on ) if I recall. I wasn’t shrewd enough to make money out of following his horses but I always respected him greatly as a trainer. RIP

I’m almost the exact opposite I always associated him with horses over the jumps. I never knew Al Bahathri was a racehorsea and I stayed for a couple of days with Brian Connorton who house is/was at the bottom of the Al Bahathri Gallop.

Can remember Athens Wood winning the St Leger with it’s big white nose band but if you had asked me who trained it I would have had no idea.

All I know is when he sent a horse racing and you seen his name you were always gauranteed agood run for your money.

I think I’m right in saying the big white nose band was his trademark I just can’t for the life of me rembember the horses he trained on the flat. Lot of Arab names I see someone mentioning on here meant very little to me. Admittedly I rarely follow flat horses/racing.

Tingle Creek and Chorus I remember. Frenchmans Cover who made up the numbers behind Mill House and Arkle…..anyone remember any more jumpers?

    Ravel,

That’s right – if I remember it correctly, it was a chase at Huntingdon and there were bets on the forecast for the other two all over the country. Chris Thomson Jones (hope to God I’ve spelt that right!) pulled up Even Sail and told the stewards that a stirrup leather had broken.

When the story broke, he took off to the USA – the Jockey Club banned him for seven years.

perfectly serious, I don’t bet on the flat.. mugs game………bet over the jumps lay them on the flat golden rule of punting. As I am not a bookie my interest is about ziltch. Had a flat horse once that won 5 or 6 races and I saw it run only 3 times…not once when it won though, even when the trainer said it would win I only had 200 quid on it in the bookies….I find it boring in comaprison to NH to watch. She ended up with Aldeera blood stock and finished 5th finishing like a rocket at Goodwood in some big sprint…..she was sold for 17 times what I paid for and I still can’t get enthusiastic about the flat…….was never really in it for the money I just loved the crack and all my friends were National Hunt Jockeys so that’s where my interest was and still is to a lesser degree…ask me what finished second to Persian War in the Schweppes or which 2 horses beat him at Ayr I could tell you in a heart beat…..ask me to name 1 of Frankies 7 ………haven’t a friggin clue. I know it was at Ascot end of story

Having said that I have made my money and will probably. because of you lovely people on here take a small interest this coming flat season. I may need help though

Forgive my daft question FofF, but is there a specific reason why the majority of your posts develop into a pointless and irrelevant anecdote?

FoF, no need to act like that. If you’re so emphatic in expressing your opinions without much in the way of justification people are going to challenge you, and believe it or not, you’re not always going to be right. DJ is one of the more knowledgeable members of this forum IMO, so I wouldn’t dismiss the man’s arguments out of hand, unless of course you are always right (which seems to be the impression you are under).

Other jumpers for HTJ? A few spring to mind.

Sweet Joe won the Sun Alliance chase for him by the length of a street on soft going. Sadly his career was cut short by injury.

Jolly`s Clump won a couple of four milers (New Years day at Cheltenham and Brooke Bond Oxo National at Warwick). He broke dowin in the Grand National when well fancied. Don`t think he ran again.

There was a modest quirky chaser called The Sundance Kid who seemed to win his fair share.

John Cherry started off OK over hurdles but was a disappointment having been a big talking horse and not really delivering.

Ian Watkinson and Smith-Eccles were main jockeys used mid to late 70`s if memory serves.

John Cherry might have failed to ‘deliver’ over the jumps but was a good stayer on the flat and a character into the bargain – one of my favourite HT Jones horses; if I remember correctly, Sweet Joe was in the same ownership. At the end of the day, what a trainer!

Better still, FOF, if you can’t take the criticism, or can’t resist posting the puerile and boring rubbish that prompted your response, why not take your posts somewhere else – perhaps you can learn to spell or type properly in the meantime.

Give yourself peace Friggo I don’t care who he is. I have never got personal on here with anyone. I am the first to admit it when I am wrong and the first to aplogies.Manners cost nothing my friend but that is something you sadly lack.
He deliberatly insulted me and you, the twat that you are, couldn’t wait to stick your silly oar in.

Who are you?……….posting what you did just makes you look like a know it all…..and you have the balls to critisise me…..what has my reply to him got to do with you?

    Silly fooker!!!!!!!

I have never got personal on here with anyone.

    Oh really?

BTW Friggo if you are around before the end of the day go to http://www.sportinglife.com I see they published a picture of you and I on the front page.

If you are in any doubt which one is me… I’m on the right….. which sums up your chances…you may rough me up a little mate but I’ll beat you on points at the end of the day

This is but one example of you ‘getting personal’ with members of this forum, for the heinous crime of disagreeing with the Almighty Fist of Fury 2k8. Tell you what, why don’t you wind your neck in and take other people’s opinion on board? At no point did pretend that ‘I know everything’. I’m 21 for Christ’s sake! I know better than to act like an authority on any issue. But if I’m honest, I enjoy luring out your petulance and blinkered views, as it only serves to provide me with confidence in this forums’ existing integrity and tolerance. I find it particularly embarrassing that you have allowed your personal grievances to spread to a memorial thread.
