Mcevoy was just unlucky imo and Regal Flush is one to note for the future.

I’m no fan of Richard Hughes and his ride on Home Affairs last year was one of the worst I’ve seen but I think that Day Flight was just not good enough on the day.

I think critisism of Hughes over the Day Flight ride is maybe a bit harsh. We know roughly how RH is going to ride these type of horses before they start. Maybe on this occasion, that hold up style on a horse making its seasonal debut, up against a decent & race-fit M.Johnson frontrunner was never going to suit.

You can argue he should have been closer to the pace, but it’s not the way he rides. The winner & it’s connections deserve the credit for grinding out the win from the front.

Who is responsible for tonight’s defeat when favourite for a listed race at Goodwood?
Certainly not Richard Hughes.I had my biggest bet of the year laying Day Flight and was happy when he popped him in such an exposed position.Where do you place him at Goodwood from that draw, when he needs to be ridden dead cold and climbing all over the back of them?
Not to worry he’ll now be retired and big John can get back to ruining nice horses like Lucarno. The pistol is cocked at his temple, safety released and the trigger is to be pulled mid afternoon tomorrow.I hope for a stone bruise in the interim.
