“The biggest problem the Tories have is the lack of candidates, particularly after Hunt ruled himself out. A mixture of loons, and the overrated.”
No; the biggest problem the Tories have is that they are fixated on tax, immigration and culture wars. None of these things really matter to the public, as the research I have previously posted illustrates.
July 8, 2024 at 12:29 #1701227Anyone believing immigration does not matter to a significant proportion of the general public, is living in “cloud cuckoo land”. If the Labour Party does not get to grips with this problem it could be their downfall at the next election.
Immigration – Yes we need some immigration – but nowhere near what we’ve had.
And only people who fit existing British values.
Yes to diversity, but no to those who don’t fit in with our existing British society.Value Is EverythingJuly 8, 2024 at 12:39 #1701229Ginger, what does fitting in mean?
More and more people live in their own little worlds, and in some places it seems the ethnic minority has become the ethnic majority.
July 8, 2024 at 13:24 #1701236“Fitting in” means I don’t care what colour a person’s skin is FULL STOP.
I don’t care what religion (or none) they have… with proviso’s.
eg Muslims should only be allowed in if they do not believe in Sharia Law. It is something that simply runs totally against British values of equal rights for women and gay rights.
…And anyone – from anywhere – of any religion – who has strong sexist or homophobic beliefs should also not be allowed in.Tolerance Yes, but we should not be tolerant of the intolerant.
Value Is EverythingJuly 8, 2024 at 13:43 #1701241Just as well other countries don’t enforce that, we’d be getting an awful lot of Brits back from Spain and Dubai.
July 8, 2024 at 13:58 #1701242imo Wherever someone lives they should adhere to that country’s values.
Including British living (or even visiting) abroad. However, we should also speak out against countries which persecute their own women and gays for doing what we (with liberal values) believe is right.
Value Is EverythingJuly 8, 2024 at 14:04 #1701243The only people living in “cloud cuckoo land”, Ginge, are those who believe that the country’s problems are down to a few thousand immigrants and nothing to do with the austerity and legalised asset stripping imposed upon the country by the last fourteen years of Tory government.
July 8, 2024 at 14:29 #1701247Brits abroad can be boorish, irritating and insensitive. But that hardly compares to “grooming gangs” abusing and raping young women on an industrial scale (while plenty of officials and high minded people looked the other way lest they be accused of racism), bullying a teacher into hiding, issuing death threats against an autistic boy who accidentally dropped a copy of the Koran on the floor, or verbal abuse and intimidation towards parliamentary candidates and their staff.
And that only scratches the surface.
July 8, 2024 at 14:49 #1701249Well said, CAS.
Value Is EverythingJuly 8, 2024 at 14:53 #1701250And we native Brits don’t do any of those things, obviously.
July 8, 2024 at 14:54 #1701251I did not say immigration was the only problem, Glad’.
But it is one that is vastly underestimated by the Left and could get far bigger.
…And it is far more than “a few thousand immigrants” as you well know.Value Is EverythingJuly 8, 2024 at 14:55 #1701252Again, Ginge, immigration is NOT the reason why the country is f***ed.
That is due to the government’s policies over the last 14 years.
July 8, 2024 at 14:57 #1701253“And we native Brits don’t do any of those things, obviously”.
Obviously some native Brits do, but (as a percentage of Brits compared to the percentage of non-Brits) the scale of the problem in greater with non-Brits.
Value Is EverythingJuly 8, 2024 at 15:01 #1701254Again Glad’, you’re emphasising my point, that the Left underestimates the problem of immigration.
Value Is EverythingJuly 8, 2024 at 15:10 #1701257And, once again, you’re proving my point that the right is oblivious to the fact that their policies are the problem.
This is just going to go around in circles, so let’s agree to disagree on this one.
July 8, 2024 at 16:20 #1701261“And we native Brits don’t do any of those things, obviously”.
No, we don’t. Before mass immigration, the communities these girls and young women grew up in did not subject them to gang rapes, force children to watch rape, douse them with petrol and threaten to set them on fire, or threaten to rape their mothers and sisters before putting them into taxis to be taken to their next place of abuse.
If this disgusting abuse had been taking place in the Home Counties, it would have been stopped in an instant. But the young women and girls were white and working class, so no one gave a damn about them. They were ignored and victim blamed, right the way up to the Prime Minister himself.
And all because police, officials and local councillors and MPs did not want to be accused of racism or upset a large part of their voting base (that turned out well). An honourable exception was Ann Cryer, a brave woman who was then subjected to a campaign of vile abuse after she tried to draw attention to what was going on. It is a grim irony that her former seat of Dewsbury was won by a Muslim Vote “independent” last Thursday.

Must be something these South Asians learnt from the British under colonialism.
