It’s not “having a pop”. Something that has happened, such as the last fourteen years, is there for all to see. It is fact.
Scaremongering about what might happen in the future is speculation, which is not fact.
I would have thought that the difference between the two is obvious. 🤷♂️
July 3, 2024 at 08:09 #1700631Nearly there folks.
Will the expected Labour majority cure our problems overnight? No. But equally the country won’t collapse in 100 days or whatever nonsense the Tories were spouting. You never know, Labour might just make things a little bit better.
Something tells me that the Tory wipeout won’t be quite as much as some are predicting but obviously I hope they get a good kicking.
I’m sure nobody here needs to be convinced to go out and vote but make sure you do, even if you spoil your paper like I used to.
July 3, 2024 at 11:21 #1700637Just in case anyone was still thinking of voting Conservative tomorrow, this article sums up the debacle of the last fourteen years quite nicely:
July 3, 2024 at 13:06 #1700640Labour is heading for a landslide.
If you think Truss was bad, Corbyn would’ve been a whole lot worse. Spend, spend, spend.
Oh but Corbyn isn’t leader anymore. Neither is Truss.Labour might be lucky. Inflation is now under control and energy prices on their way down.
But if Le Penn gets in over the Channel and Trump over the Atlantic…
Europe disintegrates, with populations blaming their politicians for stupid immigration policies.Trump’s foreign policy of non-intervention encourages a China / Taiwan conflict, North and South Korea, Iran, Lebanon and Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iran… Famine and Islamic terrorist meltdown means millions trying to get out of Africa, making the immigration crisis we now have look minute. Ukraine is forced to give Putin the land he wants. Putin feels emboldened and invades other ex-Soviet countries… And that is only a few places that could ignite… Cost of oil will go through the roof, inflation goes sky high – both worse than before… And without any deterrent whatsoever, the boats keep coming and coming and coming… And we could have another pandemic…
Of course it is unlikely all the above will happen, but I suspect some will – especially if Trump gets in… And anyone who says this is scaremongering should think back six years. If someone had said then that Putin would invade a European country and a Israel would be at war with Palestinians and there’d be a pandemic that would pretty much shut Britain and the World down, and there’d be many thousands of illegal immigrants crossing the English Channel and Mediterranean in small boats… The same people saying it now would’ve said “you’re scaremongering” then.
The country could be in a far worse state in 5 years time than it is now.
Oh but it won’t be Labour’s fault, will it.Value Is EverythingJuly 3, 2024 at 13:13 #1700641Oh and… If you think the NHS will be in better shape…
Just remember, in the last couple of years of the Brown Government when the banking crisis hit, they slashed NHS spending. They had to – not their fault – it was because there was “no money left”.Value Is EverythingJuly 3, 2024 at 15:05 #1700653It’s odd how someone who clearly isn’t stupid can spout such utter rubbish. 🤷♂️
July 3, 2024 at 16:40 #1700657And then the Conservatives bring out their Trump card in an attempt to claw back a few votes. Boris Johnson. The very Boris Johnson who was thrown out of parliament in disgrace. What an insult to the electorate, especially those people still suffering from his incompetence.
July 3, 2024 at 17:02 #1700658“The Sun” has announced it is backing Labour. That meant a lot more back in 1997 than it does now. It is a changed media landscape in the 27 years since then and I doubt the Currant Bun has much influence these days.
July 3, 2024 at 17:08 #1700659Putin feels emboldened and invades other ex-Soviet countries”.
I don’t think Putin is that stupid, Ginger.
But I do think the Ukraine situation could escalate. We could be closer to a major war than a lot of people realise.
July 3, 2024 at 17:22 #1700662‘“The Sun” has announced it is backing Labour.’
Of course it has, it knows which way the wind is blowing. It’s like a tipster putting up a horse at 1.01 on the run in.
July 3, 2024 at 17:25 #1700664Agree Richard. Murdoch just likes being on the winning side and hopes he won’t antagonise the incoming government.
July 3, 2024 at 17:43 #1700668And then the Conservatives bring out their Trump card in an attempt to claw back a few votes. Boris Johnson
If that refuge for cheerleaders of the right wing, GB News, is a guide then Johnson’s appearance has backfired, as viewers to Martin Daubney’s prog this afternoon have been deluging him with negative reactions to the buffoon’s bluster
I can take half an hour or so of Daubney, unlike the rest of the gang of ranting blowhards on that channel
One should always endeavour to expose oneself to those with opinions several furlongs detached from one’s own
July 3, 2024 at 20:02 #1700671Agree with your last point, Drone.
But GB News supports Reform anyway, so can’t judge too much on Daubney’s programme.
However, Johnson is yesterday’s man and has wrecked the Conservative Party along with Truss.
Johnson has only shown his face in a bid to take over from SunakI just hope after the electorate chuck out the Tory Right and leave some of the Centre and Left of the Party to start again.

You’re sounding self-righteous again.By all means explain why I am wrong in debate.
Value Is EverythingJuly 3, 2024 at 21:05 #1700676I’m afraid that most of the decent Conservative MP’s have either left because of or have been thrown out by Johnson so I don’t know how many are left right of centre. The only decent one I can think of is Tobias Elwood. I liked Aaron Bell but he isn’t standing.
July 3, 2024 at 22:03 #1700680‘I just hope after the electorate chuck out the Tory Right and leave some of the Centre and Left of the Party to start again.’
It would be good for all of us. I’m no more a fan of Labour having a massive majority than I was the Conservatives but somehow they’ve managed to make themselves even more unelectable than Corbyn’s lot were. Politics in this country has been an awful, rotten race to the bottom over the last few years and it needs a massive reset. Labour’s presumed victory is more about who they are not rather than who they are. The Conservatives are a third rate Farage tribute act at present yet they’ll still likely be the opposition. That’s no way to run a country. We need two, and preferably more, parties with good representation and decent ideas.
Is that a flying pig I see?
