At Musselburgh we have the ‘Royal Gold Cup’ though having seen the cup last year it seemed to have more to do with gold effect coating than actual gold. “Is that the Trophy Centre? Do you have a trophy that looks gold?”

A fairly quiet weekend before the standard of racing cranks up for York. One well clear with an apaprently much inflated rating in the Great St Wilfrid by virute of having come 2nd in November to a subsequent big improver.

Disappointing fields on Sunday for Pontefract’s leg of the Sunday Series. Much regular whining about lack of prize money, but in this instance with decent prize money for middle and lower grades fields are single figures where maximum is 17 runners. Meanwhile Southwell has double figures for every race with maximum first prize £6,280. Go figure…
