Blobal Warmong. Seriously though, it’s bonkers. Downpatrick already off tomorrow, Leopardstown inspecting and probably struggling, Carlisle inspecting with more rain due, Exeter heavy and rain on the way.
Monday – Wincanton heavy but should be fine, rest is AW.
Tuesday – Navan abandoned already, Thirsk soft/heavy with rain, Hexham odds on to be off, Hereford soft/heavy with rain. The list goes on. Where I live (Swindon) can’t go more than a day without some sort of rain. Stop it. I don’t mind periods of soft or heavy ground, it comes with the territory but there just seems to be no end to it and courses are obviously struggling on saturated ground.
April 6, 2024 at 20:12 #1689246It’s not a new phenomenon. Try this old newspaper report:
“Rain is threatening to devastate this week’s racing in Britain and there’s no comfort from the weathermen who predict more to come. Yesterday’s original program of 10 meetings was halved when Haydock, Newcastle and Southwell joined the casualty list. The fixtures at Warwick and Towcester were abandoned on Sunday.
The stewards at Chester who called off todays card have also abandoned tomorrow’s meeting. It was the same story in Scotland, where today’s Kelso meeting was called off because of waterlogging.”
It goes on to report inspections at Salisbury, Wetherby and Cheltenham, all waterlogged. That was published on Tuesday, early May, 1983.
April 6, 2024 at 20:19 #1689247And I bet that seriously annoyed all horseyheads who would like nothing better to do than sift through hours of form. No solution, just venting.
April 6, 2024 at 23:04 #16892621983 turned out to be a great summer from memory. So there is hope. Although it may be like a couple of years ago where meetings were abandoned due to the intense heat.
I’m more bothered about my lawn. Growing fast but it’s absolutely sodden

April 7, 2024 at 10:01 #1689274I live in the Greater Manchester area, Manchester is well known for being a rainy area but this Autumn/Winter it’s been raining most of the time. Some of it hard rain, and the further north it seems to get worst. Kelso and Musselburgh were recent tragedy of the weather. Aintree is currently Soft (Heavy in places).
From memory it’s been the longest prolong spell of bad weather I’ve known. Probably since the winter of 1963 when I was just a few months old. Back then it was snow and when it happened the thaw.
Perhaps we should start backing seahorses.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.April 7, 2024 at 10:26 #1689276Somebody (or something) at Spotify has a sense of humour. Approaching Musselburgh racecourse on Friday two tracks came up in succession Boys Of Summer by Don Henley then Who’ll Stop The Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival! In the latter case likely candidates should report to their local racecourse…
April 7, 2024 at 10:58 #1689278There’s nothing wrong in having a sense of humour.
To quote Monty Phython’s life of Brian.
“Always look on the bright side of life, because the last laugh is on you!”

A few more topical songs to add to the list though are:
Raindrops Keep falling On My Head
Here Comes The Rain Again
A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall
Singin’ In The Rain
Rainy Days And Mondays
Blame It On The RainAnd for those with a somewhat less cheerful disposition, there is always:
Only Happy When It Rains
