March 31, 2007 at 15:12 #50029I need to obtain Race Times asap after a race is completed in order to calculate the actual Going as opposed to the Official Going. Can anyone help me.
March 31, 2007 at 15:13 #50030Go to the races!;)
Good evening and welcome, by the way, SZ.

March 31, 2007 at 15:14 #50031I specialise in Group & Listed Sprints 5 to 7f.
March 31, 2007 at 15:19 #50032I fully realise I can go to the races seabird but I am a mathematician and my skills lie in mathematical form study. The point is: I am aware that racetimes can be obtained from RUK, but these appear after 20 to 25 minutes or so and there must be a quicker source. SZ
March 31, 2007 at 15:24 #50034I am a bit new to all this but I feel the answer to my question is out there somewhere. Thanks for your reply anyway Colin. SZ
March 31, 2007 at 16:32 #50035Sporting Life website is usually the quickest to have the time up in my experience. You can get the RP’s standard times off their website and work out the difference.
March 31, 2007 at 16:45 #50038Thanks Gareth. Found it. Should have known shouldn`t I ? Will start checking it out for speed of availability of Racetimes.
March 31, 2007 at 16:50 #50039
Why not buy a stopwatch?
I’ve been timing the early races on the card off the TV for years, precisely for the reason you state.

March 31, 2007 at 19:55 #50041Sprint Zipper, how long have you been working in this area of using times to assess going? What variables do you use?
April 1, 2007 at 07:20 #50043Difference between Standard Time (RP for convenience) and Racetime p/f with a +/- adjustment for Class of Race and age. The figure obtained is then compared with MY Modified Going Stick (MGS) table to produce a mathematically precise Going figure which can then be compared with the assessed abilities of the runners in the forthcoming Race. That`s all for now folks!
April 1, 2007 at 11:59 #50045I would say that if you use the Racing Post.. only use them …or if The Sporting Life…do not deviate between the 2.
The same for Standard Times…use one set and do not tinker about with them to fit your purpose.

April 1, 2007 at 13:15 #50046I would say that track variants can only be an estimation
April 1, 2007 at 13:16 #50048Interesting stuff this SZ – but don’t forget the Going is only one element that may effect race times i.e. head winds, a heavy rain shower, inaccurate distances, false running rails etc.
Nevertheless, I admire your efforts.
April 1, 2007 at 16:18 #50049Good point raised by Sprint Zipper and deserving of consideration.
To have to wait 30 or 40 minutes for a race time on the Sporting Life website in this day and age is farcical, given the times are often announced on course within 15 mins of the off.
Why isn’t there a simple timer on screen for every race?
Turftrax provided such info in some races, but other tracks, the HRA, trainers etc didn’t want to play along
April 1, 2007 at 16:23 #50051Sorry, omit trainers, i’ve remembered AP stating carrying the transmitters became compulsory
