Altior definitely not a natural but he has such power he will probably get away with all but the most gross error. He catches most of the fences with his back legs – he’s clean at 3 that I could see and that includes the water.
Judge, his jumps at the last two are a good example of not bending his back properly – you’ll see a fair amount of dust and flying birch at the 2nd last and he’s no better at the last. Having said all that, Charbel, all in all, was arguably worse in his jumping than Altior.
The way Altior comes up the hill is stunning. In whatever sphere, he’s a hell of a horse. At the price I certainly wouldn’t be backing him at Cheltenham but with a clear round, Stilvi is right: Min won’t beat him, nor will anything else.
December 3, 2016 at 17:49 #1275588Personally, I would like to see Min in a scrap. It happens so rarely with the stable hotpots. Altior might be pretty good but I thought Min capitulated quite tamely in the Supreme.
There was a big field for his chasing debut but as happens so often Walsh was able to dictate the pace he wanted. Consequently, his jumping was never put under significant pressure. It is the same scenario for so many of the big guns when they make hurdling or chasing debuts. It seems the rags never want even the slightest moment of glory. You could perhaps understand it if Walsh was actually setting a breakneck pace.
Hopefully, he will meet Identity Thief and Cooper will repeat the tactics he used against Ordinary World.
Min was injured during the Supreme.
If he takes on Altior in the Arkle then i hope he’s clear at the last because Altior is better uphill than most horses i’ve seen.
December 11, 2016 at 18:03 #1276791If Altior is anywhere close to Min at the last he will eat him up!!
Class horses seem to have gears and Altior certainly has them!!
December 12, 2016 at 18:36 #1276918Not sure about The Arkle, but Waiting Patiently looks an absolute natural. One of three 2m Novice Chasers for Malcolm Jefferson; interesting to see who goes to Aintree.
December 12, 2016 at 19:20 #1276935Yorkhill at 9-1 for me. Love this horse and I really did want him to stay over hurdles, but that door looks closed now.
I don’t bet a lot of horses Ante-post, and deliberately don’t get involved with the Mullins merry go round. I just pick one horse and stick with him. I think 9-1 could look an enormous price after the weekend, even with the very real chance he could run in The JLT

Graham Wylie just announced on ATR tonight he goes for a Beginners’ Chase at the weekend and aimed at the Arkle of JLT. Surely they go the two and a half option if have Min for the Arkle?

He actually said JLT first. JLT or arkle. Maybe I’m reading too much into that but I think JLT is first in their minds. Chapman kept pushing arkle theme but I also think it will be JLT. My pocket hopes so also.
December 15, 2016 at 08:22 #1277233IMO Min is overrated. He got destroyed in the supreme by Altior but now apparently he’s ‘grown’ into a chaser. Has anyone seen the difference between Altior this season and last? He now looks like a monster horse. Yes his jumping could be a little better but there’s no way Min will beat him!
Min is no Vautour or Douvan and probably not even as good as champagne fever.
Altior a engine is incredible and I think one day he will be nearly as good as SS. Also Simonsig won an Arkle and couldn’t jump at all! Altior certainly jumps better than him and has a better engine.
Yes Min was impressive on his chasing debut but if you have a look at Edwulf in that race he must of made 4/5 serious errors and still got within 11 lengths of Min. I’m aware Min wasn’t pushed very hard but if Edwulf had of jumped Min would of had to be asked for a lot more. And to be asked a question by a horse as bad as Edwulf is embarrassing. So I think Min’s chasing debut is overrated aswell.
Not trying to annoy anyone on here but rather save your money. Put your money on Altior not Min as it cannot loseDecember 17, 2016 at 14:49 #1277604Two contrasting debuts today. Buveur D’Air was quite flat at his fences but showed plenty of speed in beating a decent rival. Yorkhill was quite alarming in beating vastly inferior rivals. Given his very wayward jumping he would have been pushed to beat useful opposition today.
December 17, 2016 at 18:09 #1277650He’s better going left handed – his worse performance under rules was at Punchestown, where he also jumped left handed.

He was at the extreme end of jumping left handed. On today’s run you would be taking a big chance going that way again.
It is pretty obvious he isn’t the easiest of rides. The analysis of his point debut suggests he might well have been going to run out and the Aintree win was anything but straightforward. You wonder what might have happened in the Neptune if Walsh hadn’t been able to hug the inside. Hopefully, the other jocks will be tactically aware enough to make sure he doesn’t get the same easy ride next year.
December 26, 2016 at 14:36 #1278524Faultless round of jumping from Min today.
December 26, 2016 at 14:36 #1278525Min looks by far the best of them so far
On the basis of what?
On the basis that he’s the best of them. Wasn’t right at Cheltenham and still put it up to altior and won a good grade one today
December 26, 2016 at 15:06 #1278532Min was awesome today. Electric jumping, very quick over his fences.
Hope Identity thief is ok. He was in trouble early on with the pace Min set. Made a few errors before cooper dismounted so just hope hes alright.December 26, 2016 at 15:47 #1278559Min looks by far the best of them so far

What was wrong with him at Cheltenham?
Min pretty much had his own way on the front end again. Identity Thief’s jumping very quickly fell apart and the second was just ridden to place.
Min got plenty of help from Identity Thief today and I suspect he is going to need plenty more help from Altior to reverse form at Cheltenham.
December 26, 2016 at 15:48 #1278560Mullins said that Min injured himself during the Supreme, Stilvi.
December 26, 2016 at 16:06 #1278571Yep, struck into himself in the Supreme Stilvi
