I’m delighted to let everyone know that we’re going to go ahead with the formation of a Racing Forum Owners Group.
The first horse we plan to have in training is a three year old Tobougg filly (picture below) out of a mare called Rose Bay. The dam is from a family which has in the past produced such as Cormorant Wood, Rock Hopper and Inglis Drever.
The filly was in training on the flat earlier this year with Johnny Balding but, although it was felt she may have been competitive over a trip, she was taken out of training to allow her time to fill out her frame and to retain the option of running in bumpers.
The current plan is that she’ll go into training with Martin Todhunter in Cumbria (that may change if the geographical make-up of the group is very much Southern) and will be aimed at bumpers March/April/May time with a view to taking her novice hurdling after the summer.
The cost of joining the group will be £45 per month which buys a 2.5% share for the duration of the lease (1 year). This is an all-in cost with no extras. Should the fiolly prove uncompetitive and be taken out of training then we’ll take no further payments from that point.
We’re limiting membership to 20 on a first come first served basis as this will allow everyone the opportunity to get either free or discounted badges when she races. The breeder is going to retain an interest.
Membership will provide the following benefits –
2.5% share of any prize money accruedOwners badges for each time she runs (either free or discounted on a rotation basis)
Password for a ‘syndicate’ section of The Racing Forum where we’ll have news on the filly, videos, pics and chat plus regular trainer updates.
Visits to the trainer’s yard
Social events around the stable visits and racecourse appearances
Of course the main benefit is being involved in the exciting world of racehorse ownership for a very modest monthly payment (approx a tenner a week).
For full details on how to join, more information and to have any query answered please email me at david@theracingforum.co.ukNovember 9, 2009 at 21:23 #258075Here is a pic of the filly when she was two (appox a year ago.

Here is a picture of her sire, Tobougg, you’ll see the likeness hopefully.

November 12, 2009 at 17:56 #258384Was this not the filly offered to Network Racing previously? She looks very backward in that photo to me – appreciate its last year and much changes in that time. Love to see and uptodate picture.
I could have told you several to buy at the Horses in Training sale – some of which made under £5k. Sadly they got snapped up by foreigners but there were plenty of bargains to be had there this year.
November 12, 2009 at 20:17 #258408Jinny – I’ve now got a recent picture which I’ve posted below.
She has recently gone back into work in preparation for going back into serious training and is still carrying plenty condition.
We’re hopeful that she will be competitive but if it proves otherwise then there would be no point persevering and we’d draw up stumps quickly and look for something else.
What we’re looking to offer is very low cost involvement (that was the feedback we got from people when we surveyed) so that people can have fun. At £45 a month we’re not going to get the next Cheltenham Gold Cup winner but hopefully we can have a bit of fun. Unfortunately that budget doesn’t give us the option of competing at the sales or owning a horse outright.
November 12, 2009 at 20:41 #258411Here she is more recently.

November 15, 2009 at 21:08 #258851I’m sure plenty of members of the forum could have ‘told’ Cormack which horses to buy at the sales. Surely he should be given enough credit to choose something for his own racing club rather than be told what to buy by random [occasional] forum posters?
November 19, 2009 at 15:33 #259454Have you decided what to call her yet, Corm?
How about TEAREF? Say TE-AR-EF really quickly. Sounds like a Maktoum horse!
Best of luck with her.
November 19, 2009 at 16:31 #259466No name yet Bos – struggling to drum up enough interest at the minute though. Need another five or six to get it off the ground.
Anyone?
November 20, 2009 at 20:47 #259677Trying to persuade Mrs Crizzy. Not easy….
November 22, 2009 at 14:40 #260000I’ve too many equine commitments as it is I’m afraid but best of luck with her and I hope you fill the shares available. The fees look very reasonable compared to a lot of frankly obscene charges being quoted for a lot of other syndicates/racing clubs out there.
November 22, 2009 at 15:52 #260011Sorry I’m unable to take part due to other commitments at the present time.
November 23, 2009 at 00:21 #260085Oh dear, sounds like some people got a bit carried away with their answers when the boss asked who’d be interested in this.
Shame on you
