Hi all –
I’m making a rare trip beyond Watford on the 25th September and will be taking in the Ascot meeting on Friday 25th, along with one or two of the other people who help keep The Racing Forum afloat.
It’d be brilliant to meet up with some of you TRF’ers from Southern parts so if there is any interest we’ll arrange something.
(I’m down there Friday night too so if a Friday night social suits better than a meet up at the races then we can do either – or even BOTH!)

August 19, 2009 at 16:40 #244750Oh! bugger……I had been debating whether to go to that day at Ascot or to Windsor a week or so later.
I had come down on the side of Windsor (I’m not fussed on the NEW Ascot) so I have to rethink again now.

ps………….Corm, could you check your PM inbox.
August 19, 2009 at 16:44 #244752Solved!!!!!……………I’ll do both.

August 19, 2009 at 17:35 #244760I will be there – that should be sufficient to put most off
August 19, 2009 at 17:41 #244761Should be there …despite Paul’s presence
August 19, 2009 at 17:41 #244762I’m already spoken for on that date, Corm, but it may interest you to know I’m planning to keep the first Sunday in October free so as to make, at long last, that oft-postponed first visit to Kelso.
Will all depend on whether I’ve replaced the car by then – the current one, bless it, doesn’t have too many really long trips left in it. Back up to mum and dad’s this weekend might be hard work enough, and that’s only half as far as Kelso!
Shall let you know nearer the time.

August 20, 2009 at 12:58 #244918Won’t be able to make the Saturday but if anyone fancies the friday then let me know – not been to the new Ascot as yet so could do with paying a visit there
August 20, 2009 at 14:55 #244940The meet-up will be on the Friday IS.
August 20, 2009 at 15:05 #244941Oops I misread

Count me in then
August 30, 2009 at 22:40 #246482Not sure if people do know this, but on Fri 25th, as well as the racing, the course is also hosting the 3rd Ascot Beer Festival (in association with CAMRA). There’s also a group entry discount if 10 or more tickets are booked in advance.
From a press release:
You can expect more than just excellent quality racing at the 3rd Ascot Racecourse Beer Festival in association with the Campaign for Real Ale and Fuller’s on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th September 2009. We will be showcasing over 180 beers, ciders and perries; predominantly from local craft brewers. With admission starting at £10 and a pint just £2.50 it is the perfect opportunity to visit the World’s Most Famous Racecourse.
‘Following the success of the first two Ascot Beer Festivals, CAMRA are delighted to be invited back to Ascot Racecourse with even more beer and cider than before. This is an excellent opportunity for us to introduce the enormous variety of beers available from independent brewers to an audience that wouldn’t usually attend a beer festival’ quotes CAMRA Festival Organiser, Mike Smith.
August 30, 2009 at 23:19 #246489If anybody wants to sponsor me than I’ll be up for it.
To make it cheaper, I can try to ‘thumb it’ down there but obviously, a northern ride from here would do just as well.
Feel free to pm me if you’re up for some company on the way down.
August 31, 2009 at 01:19 #246518I might come .. probably not though, considering it’s in Engulund and near France and all the geyness.
You’ll recognise us .. the wife will be disguised as an

And for all the scots on here (and newly self employed like me
