Mussleburgh 1.05 went off late this left Catterick 1.10 to go off late then someone in the powers that be decided Wolverhampton 1.15 couldn’t go off until Catterick had finished but then the 1.20 at Fakeham then had to wait for Wolverhampton to finish.

Matt Chapman going mad over this on air.
All the delays meant Fakenham and Fairyhouse ended up going off exactly same time and being split screen.
January 1, 2013 at 16:01 #424952I know its a bank holiday but still think there was too much racing today leading to these race clashes

If you took that to its logical conclusion we would only ever have three meetings racing on any afternoon. Might keep a few happy, but I can’t imagine courses would be too chuffed, particularly on weekends and Bank Holidays when courses are looking to attract bigger crowds. Very busy at Musselburgh today for what is regularly a well attended meeting, the New Year sprint adding a bit extra to the programme.
People clearly have very short memories, as I’m sure it’s not all youngsters on here. It wasn’t that many years ago when BBC and ITV were the only options for watching live racing. Sometimes I feel we are too spoiled these days and some take racing coverage for granted.

I really your use of the word ‘chaos’ is way over the top. Minor inconvenience? Possibly. Chaos? No.

January 1, 2013 at 17:18 #424963Mister Chapman thinks it was chaos and a disgrace to British racing and the person in charge of organising it knows nothing about racing.
To be fair if they put jumps cards 5 mins apart a 3m can’t finish in 5 mins so they will clash the races should just have gone off at their schedule times instead of delaying everyone for the previous.
January 1, 2013 at 17:33 #424966It’s not often I side with the BHA – infact this could well be a first – but in this case it really is a case of damned if they do, damned if they don’t
There were calls on here, there and everywhere in the recent past for the powers that be to introduce flexibilty to race times when one course is late off, and they’ve done so, and in the main it’s proven welcome
They tried hard today but were overcome by the volume of meetings. Still, thanks for making the effort
January 1, 2013 at 18:37 #424969To be fair, as Drone states they did make a reasonable effort today, which hasn’t always been the case in the past, just needs a bit more co-ordinating especially with the starters.
I just wonder whether the "chaos" was initially created by C4 asking for a delay to the 1.05 at Musselburgh, it was off nearly 3 mins late despite the horses being down at the start well before off time and no apparent problems with any of the runners.
If that is so it needs looking at, by all means start the races at the behest of C4 but let everyone know in advance and keep to advertised times.January 1, 2013 at 19:17 #424973Not just ‘chaos’ but a desperate, flailing, subversive anarchy that may yet send this country into a withering death-spiral from which it never recovers.
Or just some races that went off close to each other due to it being a Bank Holiday.

January 1, 2013 at 22:53 #424980Quite annoying given the fact ATR usually don’t show full race replays in their review anymore.
However, we have come a long way since the days when racecourses seemed to determine their own race times.
A classic example was Fri 9th Sept 1988
Three meetings in the UK – Doncaster (Ch4), Goodwood (BBC) and Newton Abbot.
Race times:
2.35 Doncaster
2.40 Goodwood
2.45 Newton Abbot3.05 Doncaster
3.10 Goodwood
3.15 Newton Abbot3.40 Doncaster (Champagne Stakes – Group 2)
3.40 Goodwood (Select Stakes – Group 3)
3.45 Newton Abbot4.10 Doncaster
4.10 Goodwood
4.15 Newton Abbot4.40 Doncaster
4.45 Goodwood
4.45 Newton AbbotThe two televised group races were run simultaneously. Now that really was bonkers.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
January 2, 2013 at 08:03 #424994I was at Fakenham yesterday and when commentator David Fitzgerald announced the 13:20 race would be held back until the Wolverhampton race had finished there was a loud, spontaneous, groan from the crowd – clearly they were not impressed with a delay due to some sand race.
It was almost comical as the starter had actually mounted the rostrum and was about to let the runners go when he obviously got the message to hold the start of the race – so he got down from his rostrum and went for a stroll.
Full credit to Fakenham though for letting racegoers know what was happening – there are many courses where nothing would have been said.
January 2, 2013 at 14:15 #425007ot just ‘chaos’ but a desperate, flailing, subversive anarchy that may yet send this country into a withering death-spiral from which it never recovers.

You just have to love this post …..I think Chapman and ATR are as always wide of the mark , and indeed its exactly as outlined above
Common sense does not prevail it seems , at least in the world of Chapman and co
Thank goodness I do not watch it
imo
