Tonight I was doing well at Wolves. Quality Art, couple of seconds, forecast and tricast on the 8.15. Then on the last race I tried to do a combination tricast with Bet365. Usually they allow you to tick an ‘any order’ box, but occasionally that option disappears and you have to enter your selections manually. Having done that I pressed to bet but it only displayed a limited choice of the combination ie only Bittern and Anarchiste to win. I had included Single Lens, Dark Avenger and Anarchiste but this wasn’t displayed as an option. I didn’t have time to make a new combination. Single Lens, Anarchiste and Dark Avenger won it. No tricast result came up. Is that because no-one won it or what?
It’s weird how they drop out the any order tricast option in certain races.Any thoughts or explanations? I may just be being dumb about it.
February 20, 2015 at 21:46 #751607As far as I know Tricast bets are NOT available for all types of races. They can only be placed on handicap races where 6 or more horses are declared to run. I’m not sure if you can use the Trifecta perhaps instead on races not offering the tricast.

February 20, 2015 at 21:59 #751612The last race was a maiden race and as far as I know you need to do trifectas on non-handicap races.
Back when I first started in a betting shop the races needed to be handicaps with 8 runners or more for tricasts but this was later changed to 6 runner handicaps, though I’m not sure when it was altered.
The Trifecta on the last race paid £93 so you were a bit unlucky there. The bookies system was probably trying to default you to a forecast because it wasn’t a tricast race.
My own favourite incident involving a tricast was when a punter tried to get me to accept the bet on a non-handicap race containing only three runners. He took some convincing that it didn’t matter what order the other two came in at as first and second, the other horse was bound to be third. In a last desperate attempt to get a tricast on he pleaded that the other horse might not finish.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Do you advise Ol Man River? I have had some on him already. Do I go in again?

I’ve already backed Ol’ Man River for the Guineas and Derby. The Derby price is well shorter now but he’s still workable for The Guineas. My hope is he’ll go straight to the 2000 Guineas and then The Derby at much shorter odds than I took.
Just for a long range bit of fun I’ve had a few quid on for The Arc De Triomphe at 33/1, because if he is any good that will be the best price he ever is for the race.
I’ve had a bigger bet on Kingston Hill for the same race, at the same odds. He’s a year older now and hopefully they will stick at 12f races with him after last years attempts at shorter, which didn’t come off. Fourth in the race from a coffin corner draw last year, the thinking is that he’ll arrive a more mature and finished article, without a St Leger in his legs this time. Double Carpet seems a fair enough starting point to work back from as more contenders appear, or drop out of contention, on the way to Treve attempting an unprecedented Hat-Trick.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
