    OOSG @7/4 to win

Obvious choice but could still look value as this will surely go off odds on.

Looks like AOB is sending all the big guns for this day and possibly had this meeting on the radar for some time.

I’m not sure he’ll run, it’s a G2. If he does run again this year, I’ve a feeling he’ll stay at 12f. He’s entered in the Hong Kong Vase.

Added an e/w bet on Litigant @20’s

Great record first time out and if OOSG is a non runner could well have a squeak in this.

Considering the kind of horses that run in Hong Kong (older hardy stayers), that would not be a terrible idea. An inspired choice even. He proved at the Arc , from a wide draw (credit to Dettori) that he was a capable of running with credit at 12 f in a Group 1. Personally, while I was impressed with his Ascot win,and he was good at the Irish St Leger in 2015 (3 year olds, despite a nice weight have an awful record, the few that ran) his win was over hyped in light of the runners (Though Palasator did go on to win races and poor auld Brown Panther) This years St Leger (Irish) dinted his reputation a bit. But I think he ran with great credit in the Arc, and I hope they keep him in training next year.

He has the Trainer’s title in the bag, and since he is William’s horse, it is not like winning a £100k while do a lot for the Magner & Co, Tabor & Co, or Smith & Co prospects of taking the Owners title from Godolpin. (Seems all three have separate ownerships eg Ms S Magner Tabor Smith and Smith, Ms Magner, Tabor etc. Might as well give him a shot at a Group 1 race. There are a few races in Australia in February/March

I think it shows what an amazing trainer aiden is when he can’t plan a horses targets until the lads decide. Oosg is a case in point. He has run over 14f after the 20f of the gold cup and then the 12f of the arc. He now is going to run over 16f at Ascot. He must be some horse to be able to do it and feel he went for the Ascot gold cup as the lads love to win the race. Given that he is such a tough horse he must have a great chance but it remains to be seen ifhe runs to his best after his very taxing schedule. Simple verse will be able to take advantage of he has an off day.

What would’ve (in your opinion) been a better plan for OOSG, Mickey?

It could be that kingfisher was their gold cup horse and for whatever reason hadn’t been seen. I understand them wanting to win the gold cup and oosg was a brilliant winner but had they instead used bondi beach as their gold cup horse oosg could have done something like the princess of Wales at Newmarket then maybe the Lonsdale at yorkbt, then the king George, irish st leger then arc and maybe the cauldfield cup and the Hong Kong base. Very like Willie Mullins though coolmore have loads of group one horses so can shuffle the pack. Btw I hope the lads realise now that keeping horses running at 4 is brilliant for them and the fans of racing. It’s helped aiden to a memorable season and I was brought up on the likes of dahlia, tryptych, mtoto teenoso, master Willie etc and loved the all aged races. The lads are entitled to run their massive organisation as they are fit aiden has some fantastic horses to train but I wonder if they would do even better if they left the placement of horses to aiden. Apologies for length of post.

No apology needed Mickey, can see you’ve given it plenty of thought. :good:

I was hoping OOSG would’ve gone for the King George too. Suppose it was the obvious route for Highland Reel. So many options. However, it is possible a KG run was planned for OOSG – had 9 weeks off after Royal Ascot. Did he pick up a niggle? Good point about Bondi Beach, he could’ve made up in to a Gold Cup winner and possibly will next year… I’d have thought AOB is one of the lads and has a say in coming to a collective decision

Think BB has been trained with one race in mind this term; could win a Cup race on the other side of the World. Melbourne Cup for which he’s second favourite. Australian handicapper looks at handicapping differently than ours and has more to do with races won – including grades – than horses beat or beaten. Aussie handicapper exaggerates European form a bit, which is why we have never won it. Don’t like to say this, may be it needs some artful dodging to be victorious there? Bondi Beach seems to have been brought along very steadily. Indeed, had they been British races doubt connections would’ve got away with being so tenderly ridden. 55 kg is a workable weight. I’ve just taken some 12/1.

I suspect your right about bondi beach and the Melbourne cup. He was very tenderly ridden in his last race behind zhukova and us army ranger and has indeed got a very handy weight. Oosg was heading for oz too but lloyd Williams, the part owner decided against it due to the high weight allocated and did plan the king George instead when the horse got injured. With Idaho and us army ranger likely to be kept in training and highland reel probably too then the lads will have some juggling to do. I suspect either minding or found will go to the paddocks and probably seventh heaven. We could well have three very fancied runners in next year’s arc. It couldn’t happen again could it. Surely not.

OOSG still has an entry in the French St. Leger. Presume it is a G1 race.

It is a G1 and Yeats ran in it in the past, but can’t see OoSG running in it.
They may run him on Saturday to ensure he is champion stayer.

Excuse my ignorance but are all the races on champions day now been run on the normal outer course. If that is the case very hard to see Oosg being beaten unless the arc took a lot out of him which at first glance didn’t look it. Away to spend probably too much time studying form and will most likely come up with the same idea of the winners as I first thought of. Lol.

I’m pretty sure I read that they had given up the idea of using the inner track Mickey, as it was basically firm and
they didn’t think they could change it sufficiently to be raceable. If anyone knows otherwise feel free to correct me.

I am on Forgotten Rules for this.

Would have gone close in the race last year if it had not have been hampered and at 8/1 looks good each way value.

The favourite does look a good thing but it is not my kind of price hence FR.

You have to assume that the favourite is turning up in good enough shape to give his running. That would leave Ryan Moore as the only doubt. Ridden the horse twice and badly messed up both times. Personally, I would have kept Dettori on board.

The instructions should be very simple. Sit close to the pace, kick on half a mile out and win by around eight lengths. Let’s see if he can manage the simple.
