I don’t think Ribchester was laboured,
I would share Mr. Fahy’s optimism.

but hit it a bomb I think will use this as prep for breeders cup mile.

If HIAB is to run in the Breeders Cup with a live chance, a big performance will be expected here i think.

I think Minding will eat these!!
    She is bombproof methinks!!
I haven’t had any particularly fancy prices but am on at 3/1 which I think is huge!!
Personally I think she should be 6/4 at best!

That big fat 8 last time on Galileo Gold’s formline (although he was beaten just a shade over 3 lengths after pulling hard) make him a couple of points longer than he should be. A tempting EW bet at 6s

And although he looks a stone out of this, I’ll have a wee bet at a big price on Breton Rock on the off chance that he’s clicked with Atzeni who got him home last time when, arguably, he should have lost.

Lot of the time a horse is effective at a mile in May of its 3 year old career, but will need further as it gets older. Think it’s only 50/50 Minding will still be as effective at tomorrow’s distance… And this is against the boys – much more competitive. Third to Almanzour and Found is probably how good she is, and that’s really good. Galileo Gold won the Guineas and St James’s Palace, but to a certain extent got the run of the race/s. With a pacemaker here (albeit one who can be safely ignored in the totally outclassed Barchan) and Jet Setting… might not suit the Palmer horse – despite what the trainer says. May not settle. Ribchester is the progressive three year old. Did well to come from further back at Goodwood when not quite getting up to beat The Gurkha and Galileo Gold. Then beat subsequent Moulin winner Vadamos by a fairly easy 1/2 length in the Marois with Galileo Gold disappointing. Although proven on soft as well as good-firm, am glad conditions aren’t going to place too much emphasis on stamina. imo Ribchester deserves to be favourite – have saved on him – however there is imo better value to be had. On a soft surface Awtaad already has a verdict over Galileo Gold in the Irish 2000. Finished behind that rival when winner got the benefit of an easy lead, before disappointing on a firmer surface at Goodwood. Given a break and tongue tied for the first time, won a Group 3 under a 3 lbs penalty back on easy ground. Galileo Gold might just edge it on ability at the moment, but Awtaad may well get a race run more in his favour, will like the going this time and – unlike his old adversary – ran well last time… and is double the price! I make their chances equal. There is, however, an even better bet. Which horse in this field would be capable of running Tepin to 1 3/4 lengths? Lightning Spear went down by that distance in the Queen Anne, finishing best of all. Couple of poor efforts followed behind The Gurkha (Sussex) and Ribchester (Marois), but we know he’s better than that and proved it by beating Zonderland 1 3/4 lengths with more in hand than distances suggest. Invariably held up, needs a race run to his advantage and may well get one here. Available @ 16/1, I make him a fair 13/2! Jet Setting has some good form but is unlikely to get a easy lead and will it be soft enough? Hit It A Bomb had some time off before a late Summer/Autumn campaign. Two lengths to make up on Awtaad from last time and needs to improve on his Breeders Cup two year old triumph. Stormy Atlantic, Breton Rock and Adaay don’t look good enough; latter pair better at 7f anyway. Hathal beat Mitchum Swagger last time in a Group 3. Winner hasn’t had much racing and it’s possible to see him improving – needs to. At 40+/1 might be worth a few quid/saver.

    My 100% Book:
Ribchester 5/2, Minding 3/1, LIGHTNING SPEAR 13/2, Galileo Gold 17/2, AWTAAD 17/2, Jet Setting 25/1, Hathal 25/1, Hit It A Bomb 40/1, Stormy Atlantic 100/1, Breton Rock 132/1, Mitchum Swagger 200/1, Adaay 500/1, Barchan no price (bigger than 2000/1)

I’ve backed Lightning Spear each way @ 16/1 and Awtaad (win bet) @ 12/1 with savers on Ribchester @ 11/4 and Hathal @ 43/1.

Minding makes it a fascinating race
I’m incline to agree with Gingers thoughts on her and I think she has landed here by default of the other races are covered and The Gurkha retired to the shed. A fast race will see her stamina kick in and these events do tend to be well run so you can’t write her off but Ribchester is a strong traveler and I would take him in a match bet, he has been improving from the Guineas onwards. I’ve already bombed out on The Gurkha and have already had a few quid on Galileo Gold before his disappointment in the French race.

Minding is also a strong traveller and if she gets a clear run will take some stopping. Not convinced by ribchester, galileo gold or atwaad in the good ground. Minding has had a hard season and if anything it’s that that might see her being beaten.

Minding has had a long season and been beating some very average fillies; she failed in her previous attempt against colts and older horses, the trip is probably too sharp for her these days and she’s readily opposed. Ribchester has improved all season and has winning form over the course; trainer is confident and he’ll do for me.*

By the way, am I the only one who yearns for a return to the Old Mile for this race? It had a more palpable sense of drama as the field climbed from Swinley Bottom to the home turn, where it would explode into life. It was a much more dramatic spectacle over the round course, in my opinion.

    * I also like Ribchester because every time I hear his name it makes me think of the ribwich from The Simpsons.

I think we’ve been put away by the official going reports this week. It’s on the firm side of good imo. I’ve laid Awtaad back at a slight profit.

Good job that I don’t lay horses.

Fabulous, isn’t she. Minding. What a racemare and she’s only a filly. :yahoo:

I’ve clearly underrated her up until now and, although I still don’t think that she’s up with the likes of Miesque, Bosra Sham, Oh So Sharp, etc, she’s clearly very good indeed. Let’s hope that she stays in training and shows her merit against another generation.

That was a magnificent performance by a filly who likes a bit of cut in the ground. She would have won easier if it was the usual October going. Definetely doesn’t get the recognition she deserves and must be one of the best of recent years. Great run by lightning spear and atwaad on the going. Ribchester stays in training, atwaad I think is off to stud. Surely they will keep minding in training
