Usual thread for Punchestown, and although Big Races Section reserved now for single Race threads, it just makes sense to keep this to the whole meeting.

Just over a week away, and loads of entries in, and plenty of races priced up.

My big hopes were Appreciate It, Champion Chase, and Jungle Boogie, Gold Cup, but on hold just now with those Sandown entries.

Looking forward to seeing Banbridge again, and I’d have a slight preference for Champion Chase for him over Gold Cup. Very nice prices for both right now, but obviously very weather dependent.

Whatever happens though, I’ll have a go on an outsider in The Gold Cup. I wouldn’t rule out them having a go with Corach Rambler, but assuming that Stattler will be on a break now, I’d love to see Galvin given a chance at this grade again.

Entries are out for The SBK Gold Trophy, and I think this is the most difficult Handicap Hurdle in the calendar. Looks no different this year, and I’ve got a feeling that Risk Belle could run a big race in this.

I was hoping that Sam Brown would head for The Pat Taaffe Handicap, but he’s probably weighted himself out of it, and very interested in Digby or The Abbey if they went here.

Last but not least, worth noting that Any Second Now is still low off 145, and I just wonder if they’ll use Punchestown for his last hurrah

I’m hoping to attend every day, which usually means a few ante-posts, but I’m just I’m more restrained this year. I think that’s a lot do with an increased number of our runners potentially at Sandown this year.

I will definitely give Bunting one last try in the 4 year old hurdle, even if Kargese looks a good thing, but I’m not sure betting 8/1 ante-post is worth it.

I’m really looking forward to The Gold Cup, and I would love to see Fastorslow get his head in front.

The horse I’m really looking forward to vs king this week is Irish Point. I think he’ll just be a big enough price wherever he lines up, to have a bet

In The Gold Cup I’ll bet both Corach Rambler and Journey With Me

I’ll definitely have a few bets on the go on the first day, and these are my selections, with most not priced yet.

    1505 Mousey Brown
    1540 Ile Atlantique
    1615 Rare Edition
    1725 Gentlemen Da Mee
    1800 Embassy gardens
1835 Unknown Entity ** might be too short

GDM is the only one that I’ve bet so far at 6-1

Sharjah at 33/1 looks very big for the 3 mile novice chase. He ran to a RPR of 157 last week at Ayr. None of the other runners has produced such a number. Ofcourse they can improve, but to have Sharjah as the big outsider … a big price.

    Decent card for Day One.

I’ll definitely bet every race, but won’t be putting them all up.

In The Full Circle Hurdle, I’ll definitely have Paddy’s Milestone as main selection. Really unlucky last time, reckon he would have won, and I like the booking of Gainford. Likely to have Decimation as back up, but some interesting British contenders making the trip in this, especially Sun Joy

Killashee Hurdle is another tough one, but main hope will be Call Me Lyreen. Handy looking claimer up, who’s just won The Ulster National. Stablemate Samui will be backup, but I do like Kings Hill too

I was mad keen on Appreciate It in Champion Chase, but doesn’t go. Provided Banbridge stays around 9-2, I’ll bet him, but I’ll see how ground looks. Not my type of horse at all, but I’ll also be betting Dysart Dynamo around 20’s. Think he’s a cracking EW Bet

The Dooley Chase sees what is likely to be my biggest bet of the week, unless something really appeals in the big two big chases on Saturday. I’ve banged on about Sharjah for a few months now, and the 33’s is just mad. Big bet this one, had a right good swing at it

I’ll amend these over next 48 Hours

Edit, added Ile Atlantique, and still trying to work out Banbridge and Dysart Dynamo

Had one bet for Tuesday in the Killashee on Cromwell’s KILLASHEE at 10/1, difficult to know what to expect.
Wednesday I liked a couple of prices, one was CAPODANNO at 33’s in the gold cup and the other was MOZZIE’S SISTER in the last race at 10/1. She won her only bumper start by a cool 14 lengths, could be anything category.
Capodanno is intriguing, he was well beaten by GDC this season but he his last run here was a winning one in a grade 1 novice chase over 3m.

One early bet for Wednesday for me, and it’s Appreciate It in The Gold Cup. Plenty to find I know, but I just think he’s got one big run in him yet. Having a decent swing at him, but just started on 40’s, hoping to see him go bigger too

Slade steel is drifting out to a very backable price

Will have a few quid on if I can get 2/1

Singles and a double on him and montys star is what I’m thinking atm

    Will reassess in the morning

“Singles and a double on him and montys star is what I’m thinking atm”

Won’t Mystical Power have his measure on this flatter track and better ground?

    Don’t think so personally

Mystical power ran and had a hard race at Aintree

And Slade steel badly idled in the Supreme, allowed mystical to pass him and sprinted right away from him anyway.

Despite slade steel badly sweating up pre race and pulling hard in the race

On what I saw he’s just a better horse

Henry has been adamant all year he will prefer better ground as well

4.15 Today – This is my first 4 in order:

Rath Gaul Boy First time in handicap- won maiden and novice last twice, acts on good and yielding , stays further won 3 m PTP. Danny up. Could try from the front. Maybe Hedge on the exchange in play for the win.

Samui Close form with Toto Too through dark note- ok 9th in county and then 4th in Rybo- Goes on good / yielding. Only 5 and had a light season

Bialystock 10lbs higher than winning this last year, placed off 1 lbs lower at Ayr, strong finisher. Goes on yielding and Good

Call Me Lyreen Not won for 2 years- 8lbs below win mark in the liffey from 2022. Goes on Good, yielding and soft. Failed chasing last year and back to hurdling this season.

I’ve played a couple in the 4.15 too.

A bit mindful that Daddy Long Legs was probably being seen as their Supreme horse early doors and if he’s that good he will be thrown in off 135 and I’d say Paul Townend going for him over Bialystok, the defending champion in this race who comes in decent form and not without a chance is very telling, although its interesting that Rath Gaul Boy is probably the 2nd string on jockey bookings so he could be very decent too. I could see Toto Too running a huge race too, the markets latched onto him. In truth if I was a ‘professional’ punter I’d leave the race alone as its very tricky but I’m not its for a bit of fun.

There’s a lot of interesting horses in here, I’ve gone for Smooth Tom (16s) who put up a career best on the flat last time in the Irish Lincoln and makes his handicap debut off what could be a lenient mark and Kings Hill (25s) who got beat on his handicap debut last time in weaker company but was conceding a lot of weight to the winner who was well in under a penalty, the pair of them came clear and I think Kings Hill probably should have won just looked a bit inexperienced still.

I take your point on Daddy Long legs tinman, I just haven’t been that taken with his runs at all, his jumping has been poor and they will be flying along in this, one mistake and it will be all over.
